Both the House and Senate can empanel their own Select Committees to investigate, and they'll have full subpoena control over everything that can't be overruled by the GQP. This may have been a very short-sighted decision, with them relying solely on trying to claim it was all partisan in order to rally the base once we kick into midterm season. The Dems can come back at the claims of partisanship by saying that they gave the GQP everything they asked for, and then pulled the rug out beneath them once McCarthy and McConnell realized that their caucuses were going to vote for it, and whipped up the votes (on the Senate side) to kill it. Remember when McCarthy said that the entire goal of the GQP Benghazi hearings was to do political damage to Hillary? Well now they've given the keys to the Dems to beat up people like Hawley, Cruz, Cawthorn, Boebert, etc., etc., etc., right at the beginning of or in the middle of the midterms.
