If Boise Leaves, does the MWC look to Expand?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, been a minute but I've been seeing some rumblings online about Boise State potentially moving to the American Conference. If this does occur do you think the Mountain West will look to expand to keep the conference at 12 teams? Seems like in terms of expansion options y'all are pretty limited with NMSU, BYU or a potential Texas School (UTEP?) to add in.

unt, always in the upper part of recruiting in MW football. This year 83+ average #79 nationally. Texas pipeline. 2nd in cusa basketball recruiting and ranked 75 nationally. should have already been in.

Didn't UNT just get humiliated in a bowl game today?

Maybe that is a good replacement for Boise.

Well since the AAC will have to expand due to the CCG rules as their wavier will expire,  the MW will have to pick somebody to keep the CCG.  NMSU is the least resistance choice being Indy in football.   Their basketball will be a boost.   Don’t have to worry about the WAC as they have big expansion plans in motion.

I dont think you have to have 12 anymore.  Doesnt the big 12 have a CCG now?

Btw, thats a really weird league now.  Its like a SWC -Big 8 mashup with west virgina thrown in there too.

They will be FCS though, looks like they're trying to go heavy on Utah and Texas schools. Currently the rumored "confirmed" teams moving are:

Southern Utah, Stephen F Austin, Sam Houston State, Lamar, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State.

With Dixie State and Utah Valley already in the Conference they're also currently courting Weber State. If this happens gives the WAC 2 decent Basketball Schools and will probably force/encourage UVU to add Football.

The rule is that if you have less than 12 teams, you must play a round robin.  So an 11 team conference can either have unbalanced divisions or play 10 conference games.

The Sunbelt 10 football teams split into divisions of five, otherwise they would have to play 9 conference games.

Yup been in the works for the last few months all over the FCS boards. Alot of the Texas schools in the Southland are upset with how the Conference has been catering to Louisiana Schools at their expense. They want to add the above teams and kick out Chicago State which overall boosts both Basketball and brings back Football. Projected FCS FOOTBALL CONFERENCE:

-SUU (Big Sky Transfer)

-Dixie State (D2 Move Up)

-Tarleton State (D2 Move Up)

-Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston State, Stephen F Austin (Southland Transfers)

If they get Weber that will be 8 FCS Football Schools and a semi decent Basketball Conference especially if they boot Chicago State. When UVU adds Football that's would be 9 FCS teams.

Playing with an odd number of teams isn't too big of a deal. The MWC basketball league already does this.

It’s ok to work for other sports, just not in football with 11 teams.  It’s better with 13 teams for unbalanced divisions
