So, I was just watching Norvell's presser and they touched on the cancelled game issue. I don't know if was just me, but it seemed like he might have called us out (and BYU, I guess for the UW shenanigans) for not finding a replacement game the week of the Fresno cancellation. He mentioned that if they would have had a cancellation and they had the opportunity to play "someone like Stanford", they would have. The Stanford reference seems oddly specific.

It's around the 9 minute mark.

I don't know if he had specific teams in mind, I'm sure he did, but he was certainly calling out in general any team that passed an opportunity to play. Take it for what it is, I guess.

The Manure Farmers wouldn't touch us with a 10' shovel. Absolutely zero to gain and everything to lose for them against an upward trending SJS.

And the resistance to playing at that field across the street from Paly High is almost as strong in Sparta. It goes back to them refusing to play home and home against us. #badblood

SJSU looks like one of those teams of destiny. The Pack keep tripping over their own feet, but somehow keep winning. This should be a fun one to watch. My prediction

SJSU 31 UNR 27

SJSU is really good this year.  And we will gift wrap them some stupid as well, a couple of dumb 15 yard penalties, maybe a turnover and SJSU will capitalize on it. 28-21 SJSU.

SJS cld hire NIck friggin Saban to recruit a team full of five star studs to put on the true blue and gold, and UNR would still be a huge PITFA to Spartan football or any other decent SJS team.

It's their specialty. see pretty much every softball season between the two for the past decade

Where is SJSU staying while in Vegas?  If they win do they stay for the champ game?  Interesting times

They wont be allowed to practice in CA so theyll have to stay somewhere

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

I don't know what hotel they're staying at. My guess is if they beat Nevada they'll stay in Las Vegas for the championship game.

And then stay there for a bowl game, assuming they're invited.   That's a long time away from home, and mighty expensive I would think.  What revenue offsets those expenses?

If all the players and coaches get tracking cards while playing at the casino. ..they'll earn some comp points on rooms and food.

They can dine at the French Laundry, they just cannot practice.  It's a little known loophole.

CBSSN's Inside College Football preview of the game

SJSU is the favorite and the analysts are correct to expect them to win.  Nevada's defensive line returned to form when Dom Peterson got snaps in the second half of the Fresno game.  If he's able to start and finish on Friday, Nevada's defense should be able to keep it close enough.  I do worry about Nevada's one dimensional offense facing a pretty good secondary.  The sports books have SJSU as less than a FG favorite so at least they think the teams are evenly matched.

Great. That's all we need is the best offense in the conference having a chip on their shoulder.

I expect Nevada taking some big shots early to go up a couple scores in the first half. SJSU's defense better be ready to be tested in a way they haven't yet this year. Like I said earlier, I am most afraid of a shootout. We have a lot of weapons on offense, but we've also been sloppy and slow to move the ball at times. You get a turnover and a couple three and ours in the first quarter, it we could find ourselves in the spot Hawaii was last week in the first half.

Ripped from the Spartan Board... Sorry if SpartansRule is on here too.

Memorable games for SJSU vs Nevada

2000: SJSU wins 49-30 at Mackay Stadium. Our last victory in Reno. Deonce Whitaker ran for 167 yards.

2001: SJSU wins 64-45 in Spartan Stadium. Both teams combine for 1640 yards of total offense.

2003: Nevada wins 42-30 on a Thursday night. Neil Parry's return. We didn't force a punt until the 2nd half.

2006: Nevada wins 23-7 in Reno. Game was on ABC (regional coverage) with Dan Fouts doing the color. Dwight Lowery had a big pick late in the 1st half to keep the game close.

2007: SJSU wins 27-24 in SJ. Last second FG by the Wolfpack hits the goal post. Kapernick's freshman year.

2009: Nevada wins 62-7 on a Sunday night in SJ. Brutal beating. Wolpack had 665 yards of total offense and 4 players with 100+ rushing yards.

2011: Nevada wins 17-14 in SJ. We throw a pick in the end zone late in the game. Coach Mac gets a penalty for arguing a bad call. Dasmen Stewart plays the 1st half and Matt Faulkner (injury) comes in relief.

2015: Nevada wins 37-34 in OT in Reno. Austin Lopez 51-yard FG was blocked at the end of regulation.

2016: SJSU wins 14-10 in SJ. Weather was rainy and cold. Sloppy game. First win over Nevada since 2007.

2019: Nevada wins 41-38 in Reno on a 40-yard FG as time runs out.
