I wonder if anyone stormed the capital buildings of Iowa or Tennessee to declare that their freedoms were being infringed upon.

Wonder how the country got thru WWII with food, gasoline, and all kinds of other rationing..........travel restrictions, and the government wanting people to invest in America via US Savings Bonds.

Imagine the freak out the right wingers, Libertarians & Sovereign Citizens would have if they faced that

Doubtful, but then again, in those days, racism in Alabama was rampant and criminals were routinely roughed up after they were caught committing crimes (with no riots). It doesn't make much sense to cherry-pick one behavior of a society from another era and hold that up as what we should be doing while ignoring the others.

Yeah, because individual civil rights are selfish and dangerous. Put all your faith in the party and omnipotent daddy state. Fall in line or face the GULAG!!!

Actually yes, there was widespread pushback against mask mandates and distancing orders during the spanish flu.

Well, I guess it's at least nice to know that we're still just as stubborn, ornery, and stupid as we were 100 years ago.

And it was stupid then too. It's freaking cotton. Wearing a mask is not a big deal. It's not like people are being forced into concentration camps or something

Blackouts, curfews, and Martial Law on the West Coast post Pearl Harbor.

People were Forced, Against their will to recycle all their metals, paper products, cooking grease, and other garbage.

The horror of it all.

That’s not all that was happening during WW2. Americans could have used a little more libertarians freaking out during WW2.

One could argue that this was the result of entirely peaceful and orderly protests.

I'm not. But one could.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

One can argue many stupid things. Most don’t, though.

You just gave @UNLV2001 a tiny boner with that pic. And you made @Spaztecs really moist.

Quippy responses dont change the fact that all those people did what many on here say good, not-guilty americans do when the authorities tell them to do something. Back when america was great!

Not sure why Japanese Americans are not running around the country tearing down FDR statues.
