Boise vs Houston

Defense looked great.  We lost a close ish game to a top 25 team on the road with two of our best players not in the game.  With Akot and Doutrive....we win.

What does that have to do with anything?I responded to someone that said Shaver played well. I wasnt saying he sucked. He just wasnt that good in this game. That's it. Nothing more.

 you are aware houston was limiting the minutes of its best players, solely to saving for texas tech in 2 days (ankle injury), they benched him at the 1st sign of injury trouble up 17...and started killing clock.. the moment he was put back in we went up double digits again.. he is playing 26 mins instead of 12 if this game was any legitimate risk...

If someone would have told me before this game that we would only shoot 6% from 3, 58% on FT's, Alston would get shut out and Akot wouldn't play, I'd probably have guessed we would have lost by 25-30 points.

It was ugly, but they showed a lot of toughness in the second half and managed to put some stress on #17 in the country on their homecourt late in the game. If they can figure out how to make free throws, rebound better and actually make a 3 occasionally we may have something here.

Gratz on barely beating our COVID crippled team.  Our best player and our third best player did not play.

Covid is going to play a big part this season. It already had an affect without Akot available. The team that can keep their best players on the court all season is going to win the MWC.

We’ll be better when Akot and Doutrive are available.

alston isnt your best player??.. the mwc preseason poy... you are calling akot (who most didnt even predict to start) your best player???... the other arizona transfer is your projected like 7th man...  are you just making up crazy excuses to make yourself feel better...

Not the result, but not unexpected considering. A few take aways, though

-Armus is as advertised. He didn't get to show much of his post moves as Houston double teamed everytime it went down low, but he still got 11 pts and 6 rbs. But he is strong and really plays tough D. Milner looks like a very capable back up also. The down low presense will be much improved over last year.

-Ray J is MUCH improved. He looked calm and collected, great moves, was able to get to the basket with ease. The coaches had mentioned his improvement, but that was impressive. He could make a run for 6th man of the year once Boise gets their guys back.

-Shaver was out of control for the first half, but dialed it in the 2nd. He showed his quickness on both sides of the ball. He calms down a bit and he's gunns be really good. 

-Defensively this should be a good team. They had 9 steals today without two of the best defensive players. When Akot and Doutrive come back, they could be suffocating. 

-Once Ray J and Kigab are coming off of the bench, they will have the best bench in the league.

There were some positives out of a disappointing result

Most? None, not one single person didn't have Akot starting. I haven't heard that mentioned on any board... ever
