No, they’re not.  No one ever talks about “P5 independents” or “G5 Independents”.   Get your trash talk in now because you’ll need to shut your big mouth in 2 weeks after BYU gives your shitty team the biggest beat down of the season.  Live with it.

Actually some people do. About a couple years ago the B10 was talking about banning FCS and maybe G5 OOC games. The commish said that they didn’t believe BYU is a G5 indy, rather a P5 Indy, and therefore the B10 would schedule.

No they don’t.  Maybe some one-off dimwits and nincompoops on the MWCBoard but that’s it, not a thing.

Yes, BYU made their own schedule, including Utah, Michigan State, Arizona State, Minnesota, Missouri, and Stanford, all of which were cancelled by the other teams (or their conferences).  BYU then rebuilt their schedule with whatever teams they could get.  BYU had a deal with Alabama until the SEC ruled they would only be playing conference games.  The ACC and Big 12 both allowed their teams to schedule one non-conference game, but most teams there stuck with the FCS teams that were already on their schedule.  BYU tried to get the Big 12 to let them be a temporary member for the season (similar to Notre Dame in the ACC), but the Big 12 declined.  BYU couldn't get any games with the Big 10 or Pac 12 since both teams said they would wait for a spring season before changing their minds and going conference-only.

So there were no available games against any P5 teams.  BYU scheduled the best games they could get.  Several of the teams on the schedule were pretty good last season.  Navy ended last season in the top 25.  Western Kentucky won nine games and returned most of their top-25 rated defense.

The schedule BYU made for themselves got ripped away.  They made a new schedule with whoever would agree to play them.  And then they've destroyed that schedule by the highest average margin of victory in the country, despite many of the starters rarely playing in the fourth quarter.

So lemme get this straight.  Are you discounting the possibility that, had their original schedule stayed intact, there's a better than decent chance that the Cougs would've had 2 or 3 losses by now?  Also, that, absent their original schedule, average margin of victory over a far lower-rated scheduled is somehow indicative of a team's "deserved" ranking or bowl slot?  That's kind of what I'm reading between the lines here...

Yeah, it’s a real CougarBoard over here.

Cougarboard is one of the biggest message board. I love this message board but it is a tiny fraction of what cougarboard is. There isn’t many BYU fans here at all. Unfortunately the MWC is stuck with a few of us who still post here.

Probably more traffic here then the Ute board or the PAC12 board.

Of course they could have lost one or more games against their original schedule. And the margin of victory likely would have been less.  But we'll never know because everyone else in the West (and quite a few in the East) cowered in the corner afraid of the coronavirus. In contrast, BYU found a way to play.

And then YBU cowered at the prospect of going into standby mode to play Washington.

Carson St did it and was handsomely rewarded with a game against a P5 opponent.

2 weeks...  yours is coming.

After letting your team go home for Turkey weekend, you will be fortunate to play the game.

And for all that, you’re likely headed to Frisco, Texas. Enjoy!

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

After three Pac-12 teams had already bailed on BYU this season, it was pretty reasonable to ensure the game would actually be played before committing limited resources.  And, what do you know, the game wasn't ever really available.

Colorado figured they were more likely to get a W against the Aztecs than the Cougars.  Go beat the Buffs so it's more meaningful when BYU pounds SDSU into the ground.
