It’s BYU’s best team in over a decade. You assholes are really enjoying BYU’s misery.

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

You don’t even know what G5 means.  Do you even follow college football?

He knows enough to differentiate between a P5 independent - that would be Notre Dame - and a G5 independent, which would be all the others.  Including BYU.  Sounds like you dont.

Based on their record or level of competition ?

Agree to the former

Thumbs down on the latter.

Enjoy the next two weekends of No YBU FB. You will need it to prep for your 'Bowl Game'  against Carson State.

Cincy deserves the national respect this year. They have beat some good teams. BYU Beat a Boise team with a third of their starters out, the backup QB out, and a Houston and Army team that are not near as good as people assume they are. Does BYU deserve a better bowl game? Of course. But they do not deserve to be mentioned with the Bearcats. If Washington asked Cincy to play and Cincy knew it would get them that much closer to the playoffs they would do it. BYU lost everyone's respect when they backed out of that game.

Are you begging for a rematch ?

ala Oklahoma/Nebraska in the 1979 Orange Bowl ?

So now you’re making up categories?  Yeah, OK.

Those are the categories.

BYU has been classified as a G5 Indy. Live with it.

The rest of the MW does.

No, they’re not.  No one ever talks about “P5 independents” or “G5 Independents”.   Get your trash talk in now because you’ll need to shut your big mouth in 2 weeks after BYU gives your shitty team the biggest beat down of the season.  Live with it.

How so? I mean, kudos to Holmoe for not cancelling early and doing his best to put any kind of schedule together for his program but to pretend that BYU is actually a top 10 team is ridiculous. I have said it all year, I have my doubts that they are even a top 25 team. How many teams currently in the top 25 would BYU beat if Covid could be removed from the equation?

It was just being debated on ESPN yesterday that Cincinnati has no shot at a playoff spot and a slim shot at a NY6 bowl because of their poor schedule. If Tulsa can remain ranked the Bearcats will have played 3 top 25 teams + @UCF. The immediate response was that if this was not an impressive enough schedule given the cancellations then how much worse does BYU's schedule leave them? They have a single game against a top 25 team and unfortunately for both sides it was played without the starting RB, WR, a DL, and against the 4th and 5th string QB's.  The average numbers of wins BYU's opponents has is 3 (mostly coming against other bottom of the barrel teams) and it is likely by the end of the season that only two opponents will have a record above .500.

I know we'll hear the quotes about how "you can only beat who is on your schedule" and I agree it is not BYU's fault that this is what they were left with but let's also not artificially pump up their status after facing what amounts to one of the worst schedules in the country. Most of the rest of the top 25 are teams that would be there otherwise, BYU is there solely due to Covid 19 and there is no way around that.

Hard disagree. They made their bed themselves. Can’t blame them for Boise getting sick and being banged up, but they make their own schedule.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

Yes, BYU made their own schedule, including Utah, Michigan State, Arizona State, Minnesota, Missouri, and Stanford, all of which were cancelled by the other teams (or their conferences).  BYU then rebuilt their schedule with whatever teams they could get.  BYU had a deal with Alabama until the SEC ruled they would only be playing conference games.  The ACC and Big 12 both allowed their teams to schedule one non-conference game, but most teams there stuck with the FCS teams that were already on their schedule.  BYU tried to get the Big 12 to let them be a temporary member for the season (similar to Notre Dame in the ACC), but the Big 12 declined.  BYU couldn't get any games with the Big 10 or Pac 12 since both teams said they would wait for a spring season before changing their minds and going conference-only.

So there were no available games against any P5 teams.  BYU scheduled the best games they could get.  Several of the teams on the schedule were pretty good last season.  Navy ended last season in the top 25.  Western Kentucky won nine games and returned most of their top-25 rated defense.

The schedule BYU made for themselves got ripped away.  They made a new schedule with whoever would agree to play them.  And then they've destroyed that schedule by the highest average margin of victory in the country, despite many of the starters rarely playing in the fourth quarter.
