11 new player, only 3 returning player from last year, 7 freshmen. Unless you are Kentucky those are tough stats to overcome quickly.

Rebs shooting better in the low 40's but MS is still shooting low 60's. it will be a nasty week ahead.

At least Diong, our player who has been here forever and who ph deemed a "surefire NBA player" early last year, showed his experience. Oh, wait....

Lot of freshman running around out there last night. No big except mbacke. Everybody was trying to hard. Jacking up off rhythm off balance shots.

I still kind of think they'll find their way into decent ball but much work to be done.

Damn y’all. Who’da thunk our win over ndsu was going to be by far the second best win in the conference, and half of our D1 wins.

I hope Vegas doesn’t figure everything out in time for our series.

He shot 100% from the field. What more could you ask for.

THE TURNING POINT: Montana State used a 26-8 run to take a 17-point lead at 35-18 with 4:41 left in the first half. The Bobcats led 49-31 at the break.

STAT OF THE GAME: Montana State shot 62.1 percent from the field in the first half (18 of 29), while UNLV made just 33.3 percent (10 of 30).

QUOTABLE: "Obviously not the outcome we would like to have. Our effort, energy and competitive spirit wasn't where it needed to be. We talked a lot about generating our own energy without fans and a crowd in the gym. We didn't do a great job of that tonight and it is something we are going to continue to work on and drive home because we have to be a lot better than we were from an effort and competitive standpoint from start to finish." - UNLV head coach T.J. Otzelberger

NOTES:
- The game was played without any fans in attendance because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Freshman guard Nick Blake scored 16 points in his collegiate debut on 5 of 7 from the field, including 4 of 6 on 3-pointers.
- Hamilton made a game-high 10 shots and grabbed a game-high-tying eight rebounds. It was the 11th time he has scored 20 or more points in his career.
UNLV started the game 0 of 8 on 3-pointers.
- UNLV shot 60.0 percent from the field in the second half (15 of 25) and 61.5 percent on 3-pointers (8 of 13).
- Montana State finished the game shooting 55.6 percent from the field (30 of 54) and from 3-point range 10 of 18).
- Montana State led by as many as 22 points in the second half.
- The Bobcats outscored UNLV in points in the paint 38-18.
- Montana State improved to 2-1 all-time vs. UNLV.
- UNLV fell to 49-14 all-time in season openers and 41-8 when opening the season at home.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,103 straight games.

Diong actually played pretty well.  He hedged very hard on the screens and put the guards in good position.  Not his fault that the guards got torched.

Nick Blake was the only freshmen who played meaningful minutes.

That's because Tillis couldn't stop fouling and was out of position.

Yes, Blake played very well offensively though.

OOC in our current position is about developing the team. TJ gets that. This team will come together over the next few weeks. This time around he won’t need to find out who will buy in. Good guys and good attitudes. We have shooters this year at least. Conference play this year will be competitive but won’t get much respect nationally. This year is and always has been all about building a locking in a foundation.

What a disaster, UNLV looked like a team that hasn’t played together, looked leaderless etc. Not the start anyone was anticipating, and Otz has his work cut out for him.

This team needs a lot of games and practice to gel. Talking over Skype and hooping at home during Covid doesn’t exactly replace game experience together, certainly a disadvantage when it comes to playing teams that have veterans on their team. Otz has pointed this out a number of times in preseason interviews.

That being said, Nick Blake with 16 points in his collegiate debut is impressive and Hamilton is on his way to the NBA. Rest of the team needs to get in gear and find a way.

The first year was about building a foundation.  I think we will make at least the NIT in the end.
