MWC needs to kick Hawaii to the curb................it's time

Recommended Posts

Hawaii needs to no longer be in the MWC.

1. The cost of travel to and from the  islands is enormous for every MWC team that has a game scheduled there.

2. Their idiotic Spectrum Sports TV arrangement means NOBODY who doesn't live in Hawaii can watch any game played there and some of the games played in the mainland as well.   Including this week's Nevada AT Hawaii game.

3. Hawaii is ONLY a member of the MWC for the sport of football.   It's better to have a member school in the MWC who is a FULL member - and NOT a school whose ONLY participation is football.

Possible replacements might include New Mexico State, U.T.E.P. or Texas State.

1. Yes, it is. That's why UH pays travel subs

2. I didn't realize that watching Hawaii or Nevada was that important to you. I was able to find the UH Aztec game on the internet. For free. Someone in the game thread actually cast it to his Big ass tv.

3  Who cares.

Possible replacements bring less to the Conference than the oft argued Sparty

Personally, I like having Hawaii in the Conference for FB.

UH fans are fun posters.

Hawaii football alone is likely better than those options entire departments.  Paying just for football vs paying for a program's worth of travel is likely negligible or cheaper.  And the only team worth anything in those options is NMSU basketball.

Sure, the Spectrum deal is hot garbage. It makes more sense to figure out how to include Hawaii in the main deal and keep them in the conference than pretty much all the alternatives. That said if you look at national exposure, having Hawaii in the west division and Boise in the Mtn creates a natural disadvantage for West teams IMO....unless CBS is really going to start optioning more games to big CBS.

I had no issue watching Boise play Hawaii. I have a basic cable package with Comcast.

People still have cable?

I cut the chord years ago. Try Hulu

It's convenient because of the other services we bundle with it.

I would rather do away with some of that, but my wife really wants it and happy wife=happy life.

I also like having about 6 games to choose from every three hours during football season. Not sure you have the variety on other platforms, but I wouldn't know.

UH is a solid program with great historical value. Recruiting wise also significant.

Trying to think when the last time we got a kid from Private Idaho?

Southwest Airlines flies to Hawaii. If you don't like their TV package, then make a weekend trip out of it, crybaby.

Also, Team1 sports app, phone, and phone-to-HDMI (to your big screen TV) adapter is the way to go if you're afraid of getting a sun burn.

I say this as a Boise State alum-with all due respect, having Hawaii as a football-only member is the best that the Mountain West can get.  There is literally no one else out there.  UTEP and Texas State are in Conference USA and the Sun Belt, respectively, and those conferences are based further east, which increases their exposure.  UTEP left Boise State in the WAC, just like Rice, Tulsa, and SMU, in 2005.  I don't think they would want to welcome Boise State back as conference partners.  When those teams left, all the WAC got was NMSU, Utah State, and Idaho, all football teams who contributed absolutely nothing during Boise's remaining tenure in the WAC.  USU and NMSU may have been good in basketball, but it was still a massive downgrade for the WAC.

This argument does not have a valid point.  Just keep things the way they are.

1. They're paying travel subs for you.  If you kick them out, you will actually have to pay for whoever new member you add every other year.

2. Hawaii doesn't take a TV payout of your money because of this.  All of their local games are streamed online for you to watch if you're a non-UH member.  Adding a new member will now require you to payout an even bigger share of your TV money.

3. You could have added Wichita State, or Gonzaga or even allowed BYU to stay....

4. You lose a Bowl Game

5. Hawaii is one of the better contributing OOC win contributing-members in the conference, even when they aren't that great, mainly because they can get almost anyone to play there home and home.

At least we don’t get embarrassed by BYU on National TV.

Let's see?  It's too expensive to travel to Hawaii (despite their travel subs), but you're mad that we don't have to do that with their other sports?

I'd be on board with only allowing full members in the conference, but every other option out there is dog crap.
