This is a chance to build depth, but the NT is looking like a very thin group,  BYU lost their back-up NT this year and Tonga did not travel to the Houston game giving converted OL red-shirt freshman Caden Haws 6' 2" 315 (7 tackles) a start this year,  I also see sophomore Gabe Summers 6' 2" 275 (8 tackles, 3.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, and 2 QBH) a lot more in games,  BYU has had so many OL injuries the last few years (this year included) that they now have 7 different OL with at least 12 starts (Jr Brady Christensen 6' 6" 300- 34, Jr James Empey 6' 4" 303- 31, Sr Tristen Hoge 6' 5" 310- 21, Sr Chandon Herring 6' 7" 310- 19, Jr Keanu Saleapaga 6' 6" 310- 19 {only played in 1 game this year so far}, So Blake Freeland 6' 8" 300- 13, and So Clark Barrington 6' 6" 302- 12).  They also have a couple others with multiple starts in Jr Joe Tukuafu 6' 4" 301- 4 (started 3 games this year in Empey's place) and Sr Kieffer Longson 6' 7" 315- 3 (battled injuries the last few years).  Plus a couple other OL that are getting reps with injuries moving them up the depth chart; So Harris LaChance 6' 8" 310 and true freshman Connor Pay 6' 5" 300.  So the move from OL to DL by Caden Haws has turned to be a good one, I believe he was behind Empey, Tukuafu, and Pay at center.

So getting those young OL and DL this experience should only help Boise St going forward (building depth),

We're playing true freshmen in so many positions, either because of injury, or opting out for our 'normal' starters because of covid. And it shows, lol.

And with the almost non existent training camps, I'm guessing every team has a lot more injuries this year. But I could be wrong on that.

But is it not a guarantee that we lose a QB to the transfer portal next season?

Every school is in the same boat. Every player gets an additional year plus they've all got new recruits coming in. Players entering the transfer portal are going to have to compete with a ton of other guys for starting spots.

This year should count towards eligibility if the player plays more than 5 games IMO (if they play 4 or less, it should be an additional redshirt year). You're gonna have guys in several conferences play 10, 11, 12 games this year. It is actually possible for someone to play nearly 70 games in their college career under this scenario: 4 years regular eligibility, plus the Covid year, plus a redshirt year where they played up to four games.

The NCAA already said this year won’t count Towards eligibility. They aren’t going to back track on that.

You apparently are very wrong on that.  As Hawaii has ZERO injured players according to multiple websites which keep track of that.   Must be something in the water over there on the islands.

Doesn't sound as if they are getting any/many players back this week. They really need to cancel this game. Boise down to some of their 4th players on the depth chart and even playing guys from the OL on the DL

They’re not playing it, it’s your typical Harsin press conference where he brushes everything off and plays it coy.

I disagree.  Both Bachmeier and Sears should be back.  I'd expect Scale and Bates back soon as well from what were reported to be minor injuries.  Holani is an unknown but he should be making progress and back soon as well.

Interior D-Line still has Matlock/Obichere.  Then Scale possibly back.  Ben Dooley looked just fine at DT. Plus their are other olineman that could certainly clog up a gap in a pinch.

From today's Scott Slant:   The good news regarding this Saturday’s game: “It’s not in jeopardy right now,” said Harsin.

Let the Chicken Little Boise State fans howl at that.  These are the same twits who howl (and hurl insults) whenever anyone suggests that the  WUHAN CHINESE virus is NOT the worst thing to ever happen on planet Earth.
