UNLV2001

UNLV at San Jose State

Recommended Posts

Before the season began I predicted four wins...and were already there. Next weekend will be a tough test @ our arch rival.

Nice win tonight Spartans. Great job!

Congrats, Spartans. Your team is looking good, I’m happy for you.

Actually it is good to see SJSU doing well - Both teams have had their issues in recent years so its good to see SJSU winning

This season is nothing more than a live 8 game scrimmage for UNLV - Seriously doubt there is a winnable game on the schedule, so 0-8 is probably the end result............so just use the remaining games as a live 4 game practice for 2021 season

PLAYER OF THE GAME:
True freshman WR Kyle Williams posted the team's first 100-yard receiving game of the season with a career-high nine receptions for 110 yards, including one touchdown.

STAT OF THE GAME:
SJSU recorded seven sacks to UNLV's one, which led to the hosts out-rushing the visitors 176-70.

QUOTABLE:
"We talk about not letting UNLV beat UNLV but you can't make those kinds of mistakes we did tonight and beat a good football team, which is what San Jose State is. We saw some growth in some areas and these guys will respond and come back and get ready for next week."
-UNLV Head Coach Marcus Arroyo

REBEL NOTES:
-UNLV has lost six straight games at SJSU, dating back to its last win here in 1993 when both teams were members of the Big West Conference
-First-year UNLV head coach Marcus Arroyo returned to SJSU for the first time since his last season as a member of the Spartans' coaching staff in 2008
-Arroyo also lettered three times at quarterback for SJSU between 1998-2002
-True freshman Zyell Griffin made his first career start at WR and caught three passes for 68 yards
-UNLV's 28-yard field goal on its opening drive marked the first time this season that the Rebels scored first in a game
-The field goal improved Daniel Gutierrez to 5-of-6 on the season and 21-of-27 in his career
-Justin Rogers entered the game at QB in the second quarter and quickly drove his team to its first touchdown of the night
-Rogers, a sophomore transfer from TCU, found freshman Kyle Williams from 19 yards out to mark the first TD pass for both players
-Safety Tre Caine, who is a walk-on transfer from Colgate, hauled in the Rebels' first interception of the season in the second quarter
-Sophomore Jacoby Windmon recorded UNLV's only QB sack of the game in the third quarter which gave him a team-leading 4.5 on the season. Windmon also led the squad with eight total tackles and added a forced fumble vs. the Spartans
-Senior running back Charles Williams was limited to just 55 yards on 19 carries but his four-yard touchdown rush in the third quarter gave him 17 for this career, putting him all alone in 10th place at the school

From the moment this coach said that winning the rivalry game didn't make or break the season I knew he was not going to be successful.

It doesn't matter how many games they win now or ever, without the cannon the season is zero.

If they had lost most of them and won the cannon then at least there would be a scarlet lining.

Revolving door continues.

I didn't know that Caine was also a walk-on.  He was considered a WR when he arrived here, not a DB.

So of the 8 DBs on UNLV's depth chart, 3 are walk-ons (Holly and Brown are), 4 are true freshmen, and 1 is a red-shirt freshman.

This unlv team feels like the sjsu teams from 2010 and 2017. New coach. Young guys playing up. Lots of losses.

I think unlv will be good in 2 years.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.
