Oddly, most of the nurses, even in the Covid unit, that I know, aren't planning on getting vaccinated. That's how far the anti vax message has penetrated. One of the nurse midwives is quoting that a flu vaccine has about the same risks as Covid. I had to show her a study that showed that dying from Covid is roughly 2000x more likely than getting a side effects from a vaccine. Even after showing evidence, they still aren't convinced.

My GF is a nurse in the ER and lots of her co-workers are the same way. It's really concerning how far the anti-vax movement has spread.

I think so, too. Give people a finish line and something to do about it. Uneasiness with no direction forward drives people crazy.

It doesn't just drive them crazy, it incentivizes nonconformity. If it's clear by the end of the holidays that there is a timeline getting us back to normalcy, it's a game changer. And it really puts pressure on the anti-maskers and their enablers if or when their actions not only hurt other people but make it harder for us to end this.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

Would be surprised if the hospital gives them a choice.

Interesting that this announcement came not even a  week after the election. There's no way they knew about the 90% efficacy as little as a week ago.. not. :hmmm:

+++++ Bob - you really think there was a global conspiracy to withhold this news to damage Trump? Do you know how coco for cocopuffs batshit crazy that is?

A national conspiracy, maybe. Objectively, you have to admit the timing is weird!

No, it’s not weird. The time frame for findings on Pfizer’s phase three results was always going to be November/December.

Pfizer didn’t hold off announcing this in order to elect the Bidencare candidate. They’re going to be selling their work to everyone in the world that can’t steal it.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

OK. I had no idea of the scheduled timing of the phase three results. Superficially, the timing does looks weird

Yeah, that's how conspiracy theories work.

Yikes. People that studied science that don’t believe in science?

In a news release, the pharmaceutical giant said it plans to seek emergency use authorization from the FDA soon after volunteers have been monitored for two months after getting their second dose of vaccine, as requested by the FDA.
Pfizer said it anticipated reaching that marker by the third week of November.

(CEO) Bourla told CNN that Pfizer expects to have 50 million vaccine doses globally this year, and 1.3 billion next year.
"Who will get this vaccine? We have two separate manufacturing lines. One is in the US," Bourla said. "Those we prefer using mainly for Americans."
Bourla added that a second line in Europe will be used to produce vaccines for the rest of the world. "We have already signed contracts with multiple governments in the world and they have placed orders," Bourla said.
The vaccine will be free to all American citizens, Bourla said.
Pfizer's vaccine was not developed as part of Operation Warp Speed, the US government's coronavirus vaccine effort.
The federal government has invested $1.95 billion in Pfizer's vaccine to help it manufacture a billion doses or more by next year, but it is not helping to test it and Pfizer has said it will distribute the vaccine itself.

Luckily you don't see it much in medicine or pharmacy, but it's definitely becoming more common among nurses, medical assistants, paramedics, etc.

People lump all vaccines together. mRNA virus technology is pretty cool and theoretically should have few side effects. Do you guys have capability to keep the vaccine as frozen as it needs to be?

I've had experience with this in other ways, specifically with breast feeding, c sections and abortion. Nurses are fine, but there are plenty of them who selectively choose the science they want to choose.

We do. MMR, Varivax (chicken pox), and Zostavax (out-dated shingles) all require frozen conditions. And everything is automated now so if something happens with the freezer/refrigerator we receive phone calls to come immediately to rectify the situation. It's actually pretty easy these days to store and reconstitute.
