Nevada leads the series 26-19

UNR at UNLV RECORD: 12-10

UNLV’s LARGEST WIN: 38 (45-7 in 1975)

UNR’s LARGEST WIN: 42 (50-8 in 1991)

UNLV has won the last two games vs UNR

The 45 meetings, which include 31 straight years in a rivalry that permanently became an annual event in 1989, are by far the most UNLV has had with any opponent

Last years game was the first one in the series to go to overtime

Saturday marks the home debut of new UNLV head coach Marcus Arroyo who was hired by UNLV in December after helping Oregon win the Pac-12 Championship (and then Rose Bowl) as offensive coordinator ... UNLV’s previous 11 head coaches went 6-5 in their home debuts

The Rebels are 32-20 all-time in home openers, including wining the last two

UNLV has not won three consecutive home openers since taking five straight from 1991-95 as members of the Big West

Allegiant Stadium is the fourth home of UNLV football (and the closest to campus at three miles away)

Missing a good number of players for a good number of different reasons, UNLV went young on its trip to play San Diego State in the opener -- really young. No less than 19 players made their debut for the Rebels, including seven true freshmen and one redshirt rookie hitting the field for the first time. A trio of newbies found themselves in the starting lineup vs. the Aztecs

Jay Norvell has a overall record of 19-20 13-12 (MWC) while at UNR

The Pack is 6-4 in its last 10 games against the Rebels

UNR's Carson Strong has gone 203 pass attempts without a pick, which includes 136 completions and ranks first in the nation

For the first time in his career, sophomore QB Carson Strong earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors

UNLV is 1-3 in the red zone with 1 TD

UNLV CAREER RUSH YARDS
1. 3,733 Tim Cornett 2010-13
2. 3,551 Lexington Thomas 2015-18
3. 3,149 Mike Thomas 1973-74
4. 2,834 Dominique Dorsey 2001-04
5. 2,656 Kirk Jones 1983-86
6. 2,536 Michael Morton 1978-81
7. 2,525 Charles Williams 2016-SA
8. 2,013 Joe Haro 1998-2002
9. 1,932 Omar Love 1992-96
10. 1,925 Ickey Woods 1984-87

Williams needs 475 more yards to become just the fourth Rebel to reach 3,000 on the ground

Nevada saw eight true freshmen make their collegiate debuts during Saturday’s season opener against Wyoming, one of whom got the call to start

Junior TE Cole Turner and junior WR Romeo Doubs both went over the century mark in the victory, becoming the first Nevada duo to record over 100 receiving yards in a single game since Kaleb Fossum and McLane Mannix did so in the season opener against Portland State in 2018

Nevada has posted winning seasons in nine out of its past 12 campaigns

Nevada is in its 114th season of collegiate football, seeking win No. 560 in the program’s strong history

From Hawaii to Florida, from Alaska to Australia -- the 2020 Rebels come from hometowns spread across the continent and beyond. In fact, no less than 20 different states and two countries are represented on this year’s roster

UNLV is 3-5 all-time on Halloween but has not won a game on October 31 since downing San Jose State at home in Big West play in 1992

UNLV has not returned a punt for a touchdown in 19 years

When senior Max Gilliam took the first snap Saturday, he became the 12th different quarterback in the last 17 years to start a UNLV season opener

The the road loss to SDSU, the Rebels fell to 24-29 all-time in season openers and 6-20 away from Las Vegas - All-time UNLV head coaches fell to 5-7 in their debut games

That was always Bobo's approach at CSU.

Maybe that's why he never beat a rival?  It sounds to me like Arroyo is doing his best to diminish expectations.

I'd agree with the "Diminish expectations" part - After last weeks showing, if UNLV is even within 45 at the end it won't be a surprise
