I know you care. But the other guy is worse and you’re not trying to make the Biden’s out to be angels. That’s all I want from others.

That and to help me say wtf is wrong with our journalistic institutions! I know those bastards have just as good or better sources than the Fox and the NY Post. Why are they all locking arms and going full Bagdad Bob on this!

The Baghdad Bob act is more damaging than the actual underlying info at this point IMO, and the main reason this is still a story.

This thread:

Every Democrat: "This is a non-story!!!"

Every Republican: " This is a huge story!!!"

Reality check.  No one knows if it is a valid story or not.

#TeamsAndShit

The burden of showing that the substance of a thread is a something burger is on he who starts it, not on those who are cynical about it.

Nobody starts more threads than Convert and nobody fails to meet their burden of proof as often as Convert.

As was said about him above, Convert is a real treasure.

Right?!!! It’s what every politician who spends 50 years in Washington does. It’s what we all would do for the people we love. There is nothing illegal about saying “hey, I’d like it if you’d give this guy a shot and hire him.” There isn’t even anything technically illegal if Biden openly said “Hire my son, I’ll get this guy fired looking into you, or else the government can’t have this 1 billion dollars from America it wants,” so long as Obama had his back. Which he always will.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

He always starts threads with something that belongs in a previous one. Like this one.

Because media outlets behave according to the market and the market is human and the heart wants what the heart wants.  This is not an intellectual exercise in 95% of cases.

I don’t buy that. 95% of the market isn’t in the protect Biden at all costs mindset. Furthermore, these people did not go to school to get business degrees. They went to get Journalism degrees, or at the very least went into the industry to be surrounded people who were. And journalism as it used to be taught, was not about doing a political campaign’s work for them. That’s how it came about, to get away from that newspaper business model that had always been there. But they, and those who laugh off the reporting done by the Post and Fox and the Examiner, are trying to stand behind that veneer of credibility while doing exactly that. It’s ludicrous. Democracy dies in darkness, indeed.

The media that's "protecting Biden” is not consumed by 95% of the people. They have their customers, fox, etc have theirs.

Fox is the #1 news network and is all over this.

Fox is not always all over every Trump scandal.

I’m not slamming MSNBC or the Huffington Post here!

So they released this picture of a text exchange supposedly from Hunter Biden.  But....if you’ll notice in the upper left hand corner it’s a Russian cell network.  Come on if you’re going to do this at least exclude the part with this Russian cell network...

I suppose you see some sort of conspiracy here, or at least like minded companies on the same page with each other (pardon the pun). I just see market forces.

On a journalistic integrity note, didn't fox even refuse the story at first because it didn't meet the smell test?

Okay, let's start over.  What's Occam's razor here?

Why are most major media outlets not running this story?

Because none of them want to be blamed as the “butter emails” reporter/editor/outlet that reports on a real issue that might be the broadside that helps elect a man they almost uniformly despise. They think they were too hard on Clinton last go around and are willing to shred any of their peers that don’t hold the line. It happened to Maggie Haberman the day the NYPost story dropped. It happened to Jake Sherman of Politico, who meekly apologized immediately after. Those two were pushing back on the story and even that was taboo. The mere acknowledgment of its existence was verboten.

It’s groupthink, not a market. These people live in a bubble within a bubble and woe to those that don’t parrot the same line. It’s Newspeak, er news speak I guess.

I saw Fox didn’t run with the story. I don’t think it was smell test, because they’re running with this Bublionski guy and his whole deal smells kinda fishy even before the weird cracked blackberry texts. In any case that guy is not the laptop. Events have moved on since the story first dropped. The DNI and FBI have confirmed the laptop is not a Russian plot, has been in the FBI’s possession for some time. CBS along with the Post and the DC Examiner has confirmed both those points.

This seems to be the most exceptional thing about the entire story.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

Okay.

Well, then support the media that run the stories you think they should run.

FWIW the media doesn't pay near enough attention to the stuff I want them to. Really important stuff. But media is a business and unfortunately it doesn't make enough money calling it straight and I don't expect them to anymore. The fourth estate is a business. It does better at serving the public good at times, but it has never been complete and fair and whole, despite their schooling or professional standards.  Editors and producers choose stories for their audiences and then shape those stories. Always been that way and always will.

I'll be watching the debate on cspan.
