New Mexico vs Colorado State game cancelled:

UNM was penalized for being in the wrong county. The governor is going by a rolling 14 day average. Yes, UNM had 9 players test positive, but they were quickly isolated, and the rest of the team had since tested negative for covid. But because the numbers spiked in Bernalillo county, through no fault of their own, UNM couldn't travel without having to comeback and quarantine for 2 weeks, so no SJSU, and then travel to Hawaii, then 14 day quarantine again! The AD is trying to work with the state government to get them to see UNM as a separate category/entity from the county, so that this isn't an issue in the future.

Here's a zoom call with the AD and coach G. explaining the situation. According to them, they had little heads up this was coming... you decide...

Unfortunately politics has hit the sports world once again. Idaho and Boise are seeing the same virus spikes as New Mexico but our governor hasn’t shut down the game because the team has managed to avoid infections. Knock on wood.

ZERO positive cases on UNMs team and we can’t play. What an absolute joke

I mean, the sheep sure do try to play. What they put on the field is definitely a joke, though.

Probably would've been called anyway with this kind of smoke.

Going to the dentist is high on the list of risky things to do during the pandemic. I’m also not an anti masker that doubts their effectiveness. I wear one whenever I go into a store and rarely see anyone inside without a mask yet the contact rate is skyrocketing.

There are stories about a lot of people that are distancing and wearing a mask that don’t understand how they caught the virus. It’s giving some people a false sense of security.

This pandemic isn’t going to be semi under control until a vaccine is available.

And dental hygienists are at the highest risk of all professions, including respiratory therapists, drs, nurses, etc, because of the aerosols produced.. So yes, we hate seeing people in crowds, ANY crowds, not wearing masks, because they do help prevent the spread to OTHERS, we want healthy people around us. I do appreciate you wearing a mask.. for those that don't, try sneezing into a mask and see how many droplets are stopped (yes, many will still get through, but at least not the ones that get caught inside your mask..) And people spit when they speak, even if you don't see it. And yes, you could still get the virus while wearing a mask, I don't think that is the goal? But I do see people thinking that way.

Also I think a vaccine is further down the road than we think, I think we will end up focusing on treatments once someone does get sick..I just hope they figure it out soon, a couple of them seem to have good potential.

Side note. I've only had one patient give me sh*t about wearing a mask in the office. The receptionist had told me that he didn't want to be 'bullied' about not wearing a mask because he had a medical condition, she told him it was fine, I'd have told him to find another office. His health history had nothing on it, so I asked him what his medical condition was. He snapped "It's private!" I said 'Not in here, it's not. If I don't have a complete health history I can not see you.' (He was a new patient.) He finally admitted he didn't have one, had she not already told him he could be seen I'd have sent him on his way just for lying to us. Plus he has a mail order bride from Thailand that he treats like absolute crap. Jerk.

How bad is it there? I have a buddy that lives in Denver, and he says the smoke is acting like a fog there, I'm sure you have health advisories out? I'm googling for pics from that area to check it out!

At noon today, it looked like dusk.  Streetlights were on all day, most cars headlights were on.  It depended on the wind.  You could drive 30 miles north or south and get into that fog thing you're referring to.  If you were directly downwind of the fire, you couldn't see the sun.

It was chaos for law enforcement trying to evacuate the entire town of Estes Park through one two-lane highway down a canyon.

The good news is that it looks like we've hit bottom and I expect a lot of containment very soon.  The next big weather event appears to be Sunday and it looks to be one that favors the firefighters finally, instead of the other way around as it has been.

It's awful, but not one of us here would have to guess about who he is voting for president.  Why has a world wide pandemic been made so political?

I hate that Estes Park is/was in trouble, not to minimize every other area burning. I hope these fires are out soon.

No positives on the team, but can't practice together.

Science.

NM can't even practice?

Looking very likely that New Mexico won't be playing next weekend, either.

This is what I don't understand. I thought the MWC sat down with NM and CA prior to the announcement of moving forward with 8-game conference only schedule to make sure they were on board and it could be done under their respective guidelines. Where was the breakdown before they even get to game 1?

Our Communist Governor is where the breakdown began. None of her restrictions have worked. New Mexico is blowing up with cases even though the Governor’s restrictions are among the top 5 strictest in the country. It’s going to take at least decade for New Mexico to recover economically.

Wrong. While I don’t  agree with everything the governor is doing about handling covid19 and the restrictions, the ultimate fault for the virus spreading are New Mexicans.
Refusing to wear masks, fighting people who insist they wear masks in public. People without masks, intentionally coughing in their faces too. Casino cases are going up too, but since they are on sovereign land...
Blame the governor? Yeah, ok... but blame the people In the state as well, who don’t want to take this virus seriously! Outside of the Albuquerque/Santa Fe metro areas, NM is a red state, and they love trump, who has told them not to fear it.

¿How long did it take her to assume all the means of production in the State?

I would be on Sean's side on this. My opinion is that this has been lazy governance. The vast majority of the population is in the Santa Fe / Albuquerque/Las Cruces corriderr  where the most recent spike has occurred. While much of the rest of the state is conservative, some of the most hard hit areas are staunchly democrat Native populations. Close down the hot spots for sure but areas without these spikes should be allowed to function. There have been days where the IHS didn't have a covid patient in house. Meanwhile, more than 50 percent of HS students have a failing grade in at least 1 subject, double the teen suicide rates in our area. Kids are leaving for other states to play sports. Economic growth is at a standstill and commercial real estate vacancies everywhere. Multiple studies show that schools are not superspreader sites. I've not had anyone refuse to wear a mask in my office. Many don't wear them correctly but the effort is there. I was at Safeway in my little redneck Trump loving part of NM  this afternoon and 100% of them were wearing masks.
