But don't be a dick about the things you don't like

Not being Dickie or judgemental. I've lived here, studied the culture first hand and historically. These are my observations of historical Mormonism. Not necessarily true if the mainstream.

Like most religions there are a lot of historical events that are difficult to believe. However, the belief in family, morals, being kind to your neighbors, belief in a higher power etc, etc. are what attracts most people to religious organizations. When people cross the line and sin it’s their imperfection not the teachings of the church.

Personally I’ve always had a difficult time getting past the unbelievable historical events and mythology to become a devout believer and church goer.

good point about Ogden.

yea, the district boundaries in this state are deviously drawn and created

Seems like they should be grouping districts by counties or something logical.  If Salt Lake County is too large, then draw a straight line dividing bit.

Obviously, the Republicans have been corrupt in how they've done this.

Sadly, though, it is not unique to Utah or Republicans.

It’s the history of politics. Each side doing whatever they can to gain an edge on the other side to maintain power and push their ideology. Personally I think the Democrat’s have been a lot more cut throat at it until Trump was elected and he more than holds his own.

Yes, but publicly he would say that's not OK. If he were talking to a group of mormon youth, and one raised their hand and asked "Is it OK to pay for sex" Trump would say "no".

Ogden has always been a blue collar Dem town. It's the gerrymandering that's changed that. I live in a District that looks like a silhouette of someone flipping the bird. I personally live in the finger of that District. People in my working class neighborhood are a minority within a majority of So Weber County and North Davis county R's and wealthy elites.

Why am I not in a District with my neighbors who live four blocks away ?

That’s exactly where I always envisioned you living.

I remember back in 2001 the Utah Legislature literally created an R district and then drew a line four blocks up the street and included a Dem Assembly woman into a District she was not physically connected to.

She couldn't run for re-election the District her neighborhood was in and it was futile to run in her new extension district.

What a world.

Quote

SALT LAKE CITY — Making some final pleas to Christian voters at a rally for President Donald Trump in Arizona on Wednesday, Utah Sen. Mike Lee compared the president to Captain Moroni from the Book of Mormon.

"To my Mormon friends, my Latter-day Saint friends," Lee said. "Think of him as Captain Moroni. He seeks not power but to pull it down. He seeks not the praise of the world or the fake news, but he seeks the wellbeing and the peace of the American people."

IMHO, not a good look. People should keep the politics and religion separate.

Moroni used to pay pornstars for sex... constantly.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

The comparison I keep getting from my family members is that he is more like Omni, someone who recognized that he was a wicked man but fought to preserve his people. Donald "I have nothing to repent of" Trump would never admit to being a wicked man. He gives King Noah a run for his money.

winner winner. donald trump is only fighting for himself.  he's surrounded himself with flatterers and loyal people who put him above every other state and societal interest.

king noah after hearing about Abinadi: who is the Lord, that shall bring upon my people such great affliction?
trump after a meeting with evangelical leaders: Can you believe that bulls---? Can you believe people believe that bulls---?

criticism of donald trump has almost nothing to do with his policies or right wing small govt lower taxes strong defense traditional moral values platform.  donald trump is an entity unto himself and those who enable him and support him have sold their souls for a bowl of his stew.

i'd love to give mike lee a piece of my mind.  what a shill.
