Ohio State Projected $107 Million Budget Defiect

Recommended Posts

If anybody can absorb that, its Ohio State.  The fact that they arent cutting any sports is a sign things arent THAT bad (at least there).  There's only a handful of schools like that.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I didn't read anything there that says we need to be worried.  This looks like it was written because what else can they write about.  Cutbacks should happen when a business is expected to lose revenue, that is how businesses should work.

OSU should have plenty of cash to operate as "normal" from years of $50+ million dollars of income. If they do not then someone sucks at budgeting and should be fired.

I will never understand how a program such as OSU should ever be building things or buying things on debt.  Their yearly income or revenue should never allow for this.  If they fall flat on their face, they deserve it.

IIRC Ohio State has over 200 M stashed away as sort of an athletic endowment.

They will be fine.

If you are not worried about college athletics you better be.

Wazzu had almost $100 Million in athletic debt before Covid.  They are probably one to be more worried about.

I love how the athletic department will go on a retreat to explain the deficit to the regents. 😆

College athletics will be better off going back to simpler time and operating on less money.  Let the Semi-pro group leave

Endowment contributions are often tagged for specific purposes by the donor.  SO maybe or maybe not

It's not an endowment per se, more like a safety net they have grow through the years of ridiculous profits.  It was 200 M in 2018 IIRC.
