Amy Cohen Barrett Quote on the Supreme Court & Abortion

Recommended Posts

Very interesting. She’s against abortion but doesn’t see RvW ever being overturned by the Supreme Court.  She said that the controversy won’t be about abortions legal status. It’ll be about whether abortions are publicly or privately funded.

“A former clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia, Barrett opposes abortion, but she said in a 2013 speech at Notre Dame that it was “very unlikely” the Supreme Court would ever overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that established a legal right to an abortion in the U.S. “The fundamental element, that the woman has a right to choose abortion, will probably stand,” she said, according to an account of her remarks in the student newspaper.

“The fundamental element, that the woman has a right to choose abortion, will probably stand,” she said, according to an account of her remarks in the student newspaper. “The controversy right now is about funding. It’s a question of whether abortions will be publicly or privately funded.”

Getting rid of RvW is nothing more than a boogeyman to the left.  There’s no active push in DC to get rid of it.  It’s not going anywhere.

And let’s be honest, if RvW was overturned and abortion was made illegal in some states all it’s going to do is force people who get an abortion to either 1) travel to where they can get one legally 2) force them to do it themselves or 3) seek out an abortion in their state that made it illegal but it would be in some hotel room and there would be serious risk to the woman.  Women have always had abortions and that’s never going to change.

I doubt RvW is overturned even if it does most states will make it legal. Someone might have to travel 4 to 5 hours to get one in a worst case scenario. Option 2 and 3 are highly unlikely.

But it wouldn’t take an active push in DC. It would just take the Supreme Court deciding to take a single case.

Nah. Women will be forced to visit voodoo priestesses somewhere in a "back ally" where a ritual involving chicken bones and a "rusty coat hanger" will be used to rid her of the demon baby.

It's in all the movies and in the fever dreams of every leftist on the planet so it must be true.

GOP led states have been loading up on cases to attack abortion just waiting to appeal to SCOTUS when they think they have an opening to do so.

RvW doesn’t matter. All they have to do is rescind FDA approvals on drugs like Misoprostol and Mifepristone. That would require abortions to necessitate surgery. Then ban public funding of all medical organizations who give procedures pertaining to abortion.

Unfortunately a big chunk of the left believe this nonsense. We do have a number of reasonable Democrats on here who get it.

It would be like federal Marijuana rules if it was outlawed.  Some States like California would simply ignore the law.  So I agree, it isn't being changed.

It’s been a boogeyman for the left and right, used as perhaps the most reliable tool to motivate both bases.

Depends on how far it takes to drive out of the Deep South.  Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia are all almost certainties.  If Texas also outlaws it, it could be a long drive

Exactly. It would not take any sort of prolonged Senate battle, they just have to decide to take up a case and that’s that. And it’s not like they have a time limit; if this confirmation goes through the court will likely be conservative for the rest of our lives. They will have plenty of time to pick the right moment to make a ruling like this.

I don’t think any of those have proposed ended abortion before 18-20 weeks.

'They will ban same sex marriages, and even being gay itself"

"They want mandatory prayer in schools, work, and mandatory attendance to mass"

"All foreign religions banned"

"All workers right abolished, become wage slave to corporations"

"All abortion made illegal"

These diatribes are false narratives are not apart of the conservative platform or individual thoughts of any Supreme Court Jurists. It's how they rile up gullible leftists that produce some legendary leftist screaming memes for us on the right.
