Criticism of Netflix "Cuties" is now right wing, QANON, racist, sexist BS?

Wait, where did I say this was pedophilia?

This move sexually exploits minors.  That is what I have said.

“Democrats in the media treading on thin ice.  Do they really want to make being anti child porn a "conservative" position.”

Child porn is by definition pedophilia.

You’re a fool if you think lustily filming children, even to make a point, is the same as bad rap videos. There’s a reason that crosses all political lines nobody here wants to watch it. The effort to make that a fringe perspective is not going to turn out well.

The fringe perspective is calling for censorship, apologizing for those who do while claiming not to apologize for them, and/or calling people who are against censorship supporters of child pornography and pedophelia.

Wait, now that I think about it... using the fact that won't someone think of the children?!?! as a reason to censor isn't really a fringe position throughout history.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

My wife listed off a number of movies where preteen and teen boys were explicitly talking sexual things about and simulating sexual experiences and asked me why that's not considered sexual exploitation but is just "Boys will be boys." I didn't have an answer.

Why is there still such a double standard when it comes to sexuality?

Big difference between sexually exploited pre teens and bad words in a rap song.

I bet if this was directed by a white man instead of a female person of color who happens to also be an immigrant you would feel differently.  You would likely call it racist, xenophobic and problematic.

That article insinuates otherwise.

I had no idea who the director was. It's a woman of color?

I agree!

That's why I was amazed when I read that article.  A key argument there was that bad rap videos (along with Kim Kardashian, and uh... a trans drag show?) are a part of a larger cultural problem in which children are sexualized and want to be like those in Cuties.

I want to see Bill O'Reilly-led boycotts of Pepsi to spite Ludacris again. Talk about Bush era nostalgia!

Good question.  Why does a film about teenage boys exploring the sexuality do nothing?  While at the same time the same film about young girls has have half the board calling it pornographic.  It’s not like men were central to the movie...

one would think our resident libertarians would be voicing their rights most vociferously versus leading the calls for censorship.

I think this board severely lacks a female perspective.  To bad many drove off @mysfit

I’ve debated watching this movie and I’ve decided against it.  I’ve seen a few pictures of some of the things the girls do on Twitter and if they were posted on this board you’d be banned immediately.

No. The LP can't get traction because of a paradox of libertarian national politics. Smart libertarians tend to go into law, economics, business etc instead of being active in a political party for a reason. That's not a knock of seeking office. It's just a reality.

Are you saying that’s why the best they got is Jo :rimshot1:

Child porn is by definition pedophilia.

Republicans and their supporters are trying to paint the party as the party working hardest to end child trafficking.  Leftist media saying that cuties does NOT sexually exploit children helps in that regard.

No, this is not child porn but it's not far off either.

Nobody drove off mysfit.  She loves to throw bombs but hates to be responded in kind.  She drove herself off.

I doubt the reaction would be any different here if it was 11 year old boys dancing around in thongs.

So any movie about the topic of pre-teen girls discussing or imitating anything sexual is close to porn?   I think you have to draw a clearer line here.

It's always been there. The best you can do is identify it, but figuring out why probably has more to do with some pretty basic differences between men and women manifesting themselves as clear double standards re: sexuality that are generally explained away by conservatives as the natural state of things.
