Criticism of Netflix "Cuties" is now right wing, QANON, racist, sexist BS?

Being politically savvy is not mutually exclusive with being an Authoritarian nanny.  I believe Cruz is both.

I have no idea if Cuties will inadvertently promote sexual exploitation of minors.  That is not my argument.  My argument is that it IS sexual exploitation of minors.  That it IS inappropriate and gross content.  That child actors were sexualized.  That a breast of an 11 year old was exposed.  That there were close up crotch shots, close up shots of breasts and buttocks of pre teens.  Of kids touching themselves in in a sexual context.  I do not have to watch it to know this occurred.  Those who have watched it confirm it.

Well, here's the thing...

The movie did not expose the bare breast of an 11 year old. So maybe you and others should watch it before saying that it does.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

I made it through the first page and couldn’t take it. I saw it to see what the big deal is, and it’s simply a film that disgustingly sexually exploits young girls. If this were a film against exploiting young girls, they wouldn’t have had to be so blatantly explicit with the girls imitating rap video whores twerking, pointing to their vagina’s and dry fvcking a ghost. If you see this and don’t think it’s disgusting, then you have issues and I wouldn’t want you around any kids that I care about.

An adult dancer pretending to be an 11 year old.  Fair enough.  The twerking, close up crotch shots, etc...remains.  Intent does not matter when the content is so abhorrent.

Ok, we have somebody who has watched it.

I'm arguing about censorship and moral panic. I can argue about that forever, from Stravinsky to Mapplethorpe to South Park to Slayer to Cuties.

It's really more about boundaries and where those who choose to push them in order to sell filth in the guise of art choose to push them.

Frankly, if you're going to shock an audience about all that's left to the boundary pushers is kiddy porn and snuff flicks.  Everything else is pretty much played out.

We have trannies hawking HIV meds in prime time.  That's where we are as a culture.

I'm just saying it undermines the credibility of the criticism when that criticism is based on what other people who criticize the movie say about the movie.

I'm not telling  you to see it. I haven't even watched the supposed scenes in question. I'm sure they're gross. The last time I watched a French movie about muslims it was a totally anti-semetic pile of garbage. I can't imagine this one is that good.

Oof. I mean, do we have anybody with some credibility who has seen it? @thelawlorfaithful, have you seen it? Sounds like you might have watched it.

Hahaha dick. Well played

No. But this guy did. He’s got the sane view. The sane libertarian, conservative, progressive, qanon, and they’re turning the frogs gay view.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/09/15/if-cuties-disturbs-you-thats-good-what-are-you-going-do-about-it/%3foutputType=amp

What is the purpose of art? It can serve as moral instruction, pure entertainment or spectacle, but at its best, art holds up a mirror to the world and asks us to look at what we’ve made of it.

Consider “Cuties,” which has been described variously as a touching coming-of-age story and also kiddie porn unfit for decent society. It’s something in between: a movie intended to condemn the sexualization of children that tips over into doing the thing it deplores to its child stars. The people who are aghast at the very existence of “Cuties” should recognize that they aren’t its target audience. And the people who are praising “Cuties” should take a hard look in the mirror the film offers: You can’t lament the degradation of culture and its impact on children only when it’s convenient...

...Which is to say that I largely agree with Rod Dreher, who wrote that the movie “engages and demonstrates with great passion the very thing it purports to condemn.” What I disagree with are the people on social media and elsewhere who are condemning this movie as “kiddie porn” (it isn’t, as squicky as it is) or prurient for prurience’s sake.

Critics and commentators convinced this is nothing more than QAnon-inflected panic-mongering should get out of their bubble: Folks are right to be concerned about the sexualization of children even in the service of condemning such sexualization. Conservatives sitting there screaming “We don’t need to be shown that pop culture and pornography are bad, everyone knows it’s bad” should consider that they’re not the target audience: Some people do need a reminder.

But for this movie to work as critique, those who have championed “Cuties” need to ask what we have to do as a society to ensure our children don’t feel pressured to act this way. Did you, dear reader, celebrate the raunchy vulgarity of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” or dismiss criticism of it as fuddy-duddiness? Have you shrugged away the fact that Kim Kardashian made the leap from sex tape to mogul? Do you think it’s okay to celebrate little kids partaking in drag shows where grown-ups throw dollars bills at them?

Have you considered that you have helped create the world that “Cuties” is critiquing?

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.

The last French movie I saw was AC/DC doing a stadium show in Paris. When the “For those about to rock, we salute you” array of big cannons exploded during the song, Paris immediately surrendered. But no twerking Muslim little girls were to be seen. I’m sure they were with mom in the basement ready for war to break out.

It's disgusting. I don't understand howTF a parent could do that to their kids.

Oh, wait... I remember now. We're a narcissistically self-absorbed culture obsessed with such banalities as taking selfies with f*cking food and #posting on social media. That's why.

Weren't you posting pics of your dinner? ;)
