Creek Fire

Recommended Posts

The Creek Fire up in Shaver (45 miles Northeast from Fresno) has torched nearly 46k acres and isn't slowing down. Mandatory evacuations are underway after nearly 100 people were trapped at the Mammoth Creek Reservoir. Thankfully the fire veered off and they were able to get to safety, but 20 people had to be taken to the hospital for critical burn injuries. I have a friend who works for the Yosemite Mountain Pine Railroad and his crew were evacuating people on their trains.

High smoke all day today in Reno, air quality was okay though.  At least in kept temps down.

The smoke here is awful. I'm in Visalia which is 30 miles south of Fresno and we are seeing thin layers of ash on the ground. Our sky was an orange haze around 7 this evening.

Yeah some may remember our family cabin is at Shaver Lake. Fire fighters are incredible.   If I can find more pictures to post I will

I also know someone who has a cabin up at Shaver. He was thinking about going up there on Friday with his family for the weekend, but his son ended up not feeling well.

Looks like most of the buildings are safe.  They got very lucky and had a bit of a wind shift that allowed them to set back fires all along 168.

I have two places that remind me of my grandparents.  A house in Emerald Bay that burned to the ground in the Laguna Beach fire and the cabin at Shaver.   At the end of the day it’s just stuff but I’m glad it’s still standing.

Valley fire here in San diego is up to 10k acres, still uncontained. I couldn't imagine fighting fires in 114 degee heat. It was the hottest day ever recorded in East County on Saturday when the fire started. Luckily the winds have shifted and it's headed out to Mexico, but Santa Ana winds tomorrow night are expected to blow E to W at a good clip (25-35 mph). I hope they get it mostly contained by then.

Been reading reports that the SoCal fire was started by a gender reveal smoke bomb. Phucking idiots. 🤬

There are several fires burning in SoCal. The one you are speaking of is the El Dorado Fire up in San Berdoo. Ours is the Valley Fire - cause unknown.

ETA: Just saw @Los_Aztecas beat me to it.

"Gender reveal"?

For an expecting couple?

Yes, I've seen videos of couples lighting them in dead grass areas before. People think it's safe since there are no "flames", but the hot particles can travel and easily set weeds on fire.
