There’s no reason to cancel the season.  It’s fear porn at its finest.

Yeah like I said a while ago. If EVERYONE just played this fall you would easily end up with less than 10 football players being hospitalized (ie serious cases) and statistically like .001 players dying (ie maybe one out of a thousand years one player would die of COVID). BUT just cause there is no football doesn't mean players won't get COVID. They can still get it in their hometowns... 17-24 years old are not going to isolate at home for a year plus.

But testing positive means you’re shedding virus. Our main problem is that we’ve never got the spread sufficiently under control.

That's Okay. It was never going to be "under contol" it was going to run its course one way or another just like it has.

America for the most part eats like crap, lives like crap. Which causes more issues than most know. Yet we don't shut down.  Alcohol,  drugs, fast food kill more people everyday where is that shut down?

It sucks that loved ones were lost due to complications with covid.  But like I said the numbers don't add up. I may sound insensitive, but the deaths of the elderly with 5 years left to live versus the millions of jobs lost and changing the future of some of these kids was not worth the shutdown, IMO.

I mean we had a chance extremely early on to get it 'under control" but reaslitistcally that was not going to happen. I mean we could have shut down ALL foreign travel last December and taken a 2-3 week break to shelter in place early on. BUT even if we did that we would really just be delaying the outbreak not eliminating it. Unless you were going to shut down all international travel for 16-24 months we were going to have an outbreak of this virus. Just like with H1N1 it just was going to "run its course". H1N1 was just a less deadly and less contagious but honestly America's response wasn't any better.

Of course there was eventually going to be an outbreak. The point is how badly we bungled the response once it got here.  I’ll shut up now, I’m thinking this should be on the Non-Sports side.

Depends.  I dont get the flu vaccine.   I wouldnt hff ave my healthy children take a rushed vaccine.  Would you?

Well even a non "rushed" vaccine still doesn't give you enough time to see the potential long term (ie 5+ years) negative effects. If my hypothetical child wasn't healthy I would want them to take the vaccine even if not proven to be 100% effective and 100% safe. If they were healthy I would pass for now. Given a.) for young children the flu (at least with current available evidence) is more deadly than COVID and b.) if takes YEARS to truly see how effective/safe a vaccine is c.) it is very possible by the time the vaccine is widely available  COVID-19 is basically over (this is what happened with H1N1).

There is no argument for playing or canceling.  The season should have never been canceled. Allowing a medical redshirt for those scared or those with immunal compromised systems or medical complications is what should have been done.  Also allowing true freshman to play a whole season if to many players are medically redshirted with them retaining the option to redshirt later.

Testing positive is different from being sick and somewhere along pandemic we as a nation forgot that. The percentages don't add up and we just ruined lives over it.

"Ruined our lives"? That's a wee bit over the top hyperbole.

Are we so freaking spoiled, gotta have it all and have it right now, that we can't put up with a little inconvenience in our lives?

There is no getting this under control, it’s too contagious. Until there is a successful vaccine and it has time to be widely circulated there won’t be NCAA sports like football or basketball.

And this is obviously not true either.

Millions of people are unemployed, some lost business/life savings, some committed suicide, some have worsen health/mental health (which can lower life expectancy), ect.  I am pretty sure some of those people would say their lives were ruined.

Me personally I was inconvenienced (mostly through losing my main entertainment avenue in sports) but was fortunate enough to not have anyone in my immediate family get laid off or seriously sick (thus far). So sure many people did not have their lives ruined but it is naive to say some people did not have their lives ruined.

Just for a little balance to your point of view, I'd say many more folks had their lives ruined in the real estate/financial meltdown of 2008.

We recovered from that and we'll recover from this.

Yes, some folks are more impacted than others but for the very large majority, this will be a relatively small blip in their lifetimes.

I am not one to have the mentality of gotta have it right now...

So 16000 employees have or will lose their jobs at 1 company in Vegas alone. How many small business closed shop?  My understanding is, for every job created is another 11 jobs added along side that. So how many jobs are we projected to lose total???  These learn from home orders for students has the potential to change the course for some of them.  Your talking about potential scholarships missd because a there won't be a breakout season for a senior.  Elementary kids miss out on socializing.  Potential to change the course of their lives. The on-line classes are a joke. Some schools have no idea how to run them.

So yes lives can be ruined. This is not "a little inconvenience".

Edit:  also how many murders happened of masks?

the real estate crash was a choice by Americans.  This is completely different.  The government lied and shut business down.  Shut schools down. Freedom of choice was somewhat removed.  Who knows if this impacted riots because of cabin fever. (I know some are just evil, some are followers that looked for direction. )

Probably. But I’m reluctant to blame anyone with Covid 19 though.
