I searched far and wide for any photos of this game.  I could not find one so a box score will have to do.

Side note:  USU's Emmett White, who set an FBS record of 578 all-purpose yards (including 322 on the ground) the previous week against New Mexico State, was somewhat kept in check by Justin Howell and the Broncos.  White "only" compiled 207 yards on this day.

Week 12, November 18th.  Senior Day on The Blue.  Boise State rolled up Idaho 66-24 and clinched the Big West crown outright.  With their sixth consecutive win in a row, they were 9-2 overall and 5-0 in conference.  For the first time in his Bronco career, Bart Hendricks passed for over 400 yards (20/30 for 405, 5 TDs and 0 INTs).  Robbie Snelling had a big day with five catches for 120 yards and two scores.  On defense, Boise picked off the Vandals John Welsh four times.

For the fifth year seniors, this was a proud moment.  They began their careers right as Boise State moved up to the 1A/FBS ranks.  As freshmen or redshirts in 1996, they watched the Vandals put up 64 points.  In 2000, they paid it back in full

The 2000 Boise vs Idaho game.

Fast forward to the 2 hr 47 minute mark for this highlight.  While it was senior day, even freshman Ryan Dinwiddie found a moment to shine.  He threaded the needle to Tim Gilligan for a 44 yard TD.

On December 2nd, Dirk Koetter was hired by Arizona State to be the Sun Devils next head coach.  He chose to coach Boise in the Humanitarian Bowl before leaving.

December 28th.  The 2000 Humanitarian Bowl paired Boise State with UTEP, the co-champions of the WAC.  Starting in 2001, Boise-UTEP would be played under the WAC banner.  But on this day, the Broncos represented the Big West one last time as the 2x defending league champions.

Boise closed out the Dirk Koetter and Big West eras with a 38-23 win over UTEP.  And they did so with a balanced attack offensively.  30 pass attempts and 29 carries.  285 yards through the air, 175 yards rushing.  Bart Hendricks had rushing TDs of 77 yards and 12 yards, and also caught a TD reception himself in the 4th quarter.  On defense the Broncos forced three turnovers and held Rocky Perez to under 50% completion rate.  The Broncos finished their 2000 season 10-2 and on a seven game winning streak.  Capped off their Last Dance with a bowl victory.

As Dirk Koetter and Shaunard Harts celebrated their win over UTEP, an era came to an end. Koetter went to Arizona State; the Broncos promoted offensive coordinator Dan Hawkins to head coach to succeed him.

With Boise State and the other football-playing members' departure, this 2000 Humanitarian Bowl was the last Big West football game.  The Broncos turned off the lights for a conference that went a perfect 3-0 in bowl games in the BCS era.

And they were singing....

"My, My, this Big West Conference guy.

He went back to riding buses and just let out a sigh.

After the Bowl, he waved Boise goodbye

Singing, 'we will miss you. That's no lie.  We will miss you, that's no lie."

They were singing:

"My, My, this Big West Conference guy.

Will go back to riding buses now that football has died.

They dropped the sport, and waved Boise goodbye

Singing, 'we will miss you.  That's no lie."

I liked Dirk. He wasn’t shy about calling out the local media and the fans. Plus he was a damn good football coach. His most famous line was:

”it doesn’t have to be close” when his team played the Vandals in 1999. And to his credit, it wasn’t. 45-14 Broncos.
