bigd
Wow, how can both UTEP and UTSA be that bad? Is Texas recruiting getting worse like it supposedly is in California?

Well, UTSA's program is only about 9 years old, and is a commuter school. And the most Texans forget El Paso is even in Texas - its closer to Albuquerque than it is to any decent sized town in Texas. And HS football in EP has never been stellar. You can throw Texas State in there, too - they were a 1AA power many moons ago, but have sucked since making the jump they should have never made. Then you figure that there's 12 D1A schools in Texas, plus another 8 1AA. Plus all the schools that come in to Texas to recruit. Fair number of top players leave the state (hi, OU...). The talent pool is deep, but there's a lot of teams swimming in that pool. There were 45 players from Texas in last years ESPN 300 recruiting list, and 47 on this years (CA had 23 and 27). But 23 of last year's left the state.

I went to last years NMSU/UTEP game and if NMSU was not constantly shooting itself in the foot. NMSU probably would have won by three touchdowns instead it squeaked by with 9 point victory. UTEP has fallen so far... I feel sorry for them.

The team might be less motivated without the Boise game on the schedule. BYU needs to dedicate this season to family members who are currently too sick to play (Boise, USU and Utah). BYU needs to swallow their pride and join either the MWC or the AAC. However I do not think they will ever admit they made a mistake.
Sputnik46
Dang, the Pack had a legitimate shot at going 4-0 in nonconference. The highest rated FBS opponent according to this ranking came in at #60. We also had #74 & 76.
