I didn't realize this was the random criteria for best bball program.

Do you mean which sweet 16 team among these was the best?

How is judging a program on how far they reached in the NCAA Tournament not a measure of success?

If you're going back to '85 - then it has to be UNLV as the best program of the last 35 years (but they've sucked for the last 12)

Since '85:

UNLV (best program last 35 years):

1 natty, 3 final fours, 4 elite eights, 6 sweet sixteens, 15 NCAA tournament appearances

SDSU (best program last decade):

2 sweet 16's, 10 tournament appearances

Nevada (best program last 3 years):

2 sweet 16's, 8 tournament appearances

Wyoming (one-year wonder -1987):

1 sweet 16 (lost to UNLV), 4 tournament appearances

New Mexico:

13 tournament appearances

USU:

11 tournament appearances

BSU:

6 tournament appearances

CSU:

5 tournament appearances

Hawaii (for reference):

4 tournament appearances

AFA:

2 tournament appearances

Fresno:

2 tournament appearances

SJSU:

1 tournament appearance (1996)

UNLV had a top notch program in the early 90s, just ask one of their fans about why their past success is way more relevant that what's going on in the program as of late.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

Yeah, it really depends on the criteria. If we're judging since 1985, it's UNLV and not even debatable. If we're going off this century it's SDSU.

Yeah right now you can't argue against SDSU given their recent successes.

Soon to be Wyoming!  The right coach and a little better recruiting.  Give us a year or two and we’ll be making some noise again in the MWC and nationally.  You heard it here first!

I voted for Wyoming right now. They are the bar the rest of the conference is trying to reach

So how far a single team went in one year of the tourney is your bar for who is the most successful program? Even if that tournament happened 30 years ago? I just don't find your criteria all that relevant if the goal is to make an honest assessment about the best programs... both currently or historically. What about total number of wins? What about number of tourney appearances? How about conference titles? I would think all of these are better indicators of the most successful program.

UNLV has obviously achieved the highest accolades with a national title and another appearance in the national title game. (Wyo. fans will argue about their natty in the 40's too but pay no attention since it was nearly 80 years ago and the fact that most schools weren't playing basketball that year due to the war)

SDSU has the most success over the past decade or so with UNR and USU having recent success.

USU has also been to the most tourneys, has the most wins, and most conference titles in the last 20 years and UNM has a nice amount of post season appearances too.
