Richest 1% Responsible for 70% of Unpaid Taxes?

Recommended Posts

The most disgusting example of legal tax dodging I’ve heard of happened during Obama’s presidency. Obama was buddies with Jeffrey Immelt (the widely known controversial CEO of GE) and gave him billions in defense contracts and tax breaks (even as GE did big business strengthening our enemy Iran). In fact, from 2008 to 2013, GE got billions in tax refunds and paid no federal tax.

In 2012, GE stashed $108 billion in offshore tax havens to avoid paying income taxes. If this practice were outlawed, GE would have paid $37.8 billion in federal income taxes that year.

This is the kind of corruption and greed that threatens capitalism. Not only is it corrupt, it gives socialism pimps ammo to help convince kids that socialism is worth a try.

I’ve always found it really dumb that people think pointing out that Sanders has made a good amount of money late in life is some kind of “gotcha”; as if one can only advocate for the working class if they themselves are in the working class.

What's dumb is when people can't see the hypocrisy in Sander's campaign trail philosophy of "If you can pay more, you should" while taking full advantage of the tax breaks he regularly rails against to pay an effective tax rate of 13.5% in 2014 (less half of the group he regularly put down for not paying enough taxes). For a candidate who rages against high earners paying a lower effective tax rate than blue-collar workers, it presents a morally inconvenient irony, to say the least.

He follows the tax laws like everyone else.

Would you willingly pay more taxes then required ?

I didn't think so.

Of course not, but I'm also not out there raging against it. Surely you see the difference there.

I do see what on the surface appears to be hypocrisy. He believes the laws need changing. Even if it has a negative impact on his taxes.

I'm no fan of Bernie's agenda, but he is far less disingenuine than The Donald.

The law doesn't have to be changed for there to be a negative effect on his taxes. He can file his tax return without taking the tax deductions and tax credits that allow him to pay an effective tax rate that is half of what blue-collar workers pay. Seems like it would be a great opportunity to put his money where his mouth is. We all know that no politician is going to do that though, regardless of whether or not they're wearing a Robin Hood hat.

I don’t really care about politicians “putting their money where their mouth is”. That’s like saying I should respect some warmongering piece of shit that happens to be a former soldier because he “put his money where his mouth was”. So the hell what.

Again....no. But then again, I've never complained about the amount of taxes that the 1% pay, so I don't know why you would even pose the question. If I were to publicly call people out for doing something....anything....and call for change, I'd make damn sure I wasn't part of the problem.

That's nothing like that.

Donny seems to think he smart because he has taken advantage of tax loopholes.
