I hope you’re proud of yourself making fun of a bunch of kids that dedicated themselves to playing the sport they loved only to have their knees cut off after ten games. This was the last chance to play baseball for a lot of these kids. You are an asshole.

Lighten up Francis.

What is the annual budget of a MWC college baseball program?   Seems like they could have tried to be creative and found a sponsor (donor) to fund it.

What big companies are in Idaho?  Albertsons?  Micron?   The Potato Barons?   Anyone?

They could transfer to a school in Utah, hopefully, or somewhere close to Idaho.   BYU, Utah, UVU, Dixie all have college baseball programs.

I don't know the cost, but I'm sure it wasn't cheap.

"It will save the university $3 million." So, this being your almost first season... that much.

I am guessing it was the forecasted costs of building the stadium that led to them axing a sport that could be one of the closer sports to net zero season-by-season.  Golf, T&F and tennis are probably money pits, but they already have a facility or cheaply rent a facility.

Are they at the minimum for men’s teams now?   The ncaa will either have to change minimum sports rules or watch teams drop to D2.

Speaking of minimums, what are the minimum teams a school can sponsor to be a MWC member? Seems the MWC, would have to give a  pass to member schools  that need to drop programs due to finances. UNM had previously cut 5 programs, so we already know the pain of losing programs.

COVID is having a drastic effect on all sports and people’s lives in general. It’s disheartening to say the least. And right now there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.

Another tragedy...

MLB dropped a bunch of pioneer league teams.  Teams like Ogden and Orem had great fan support.

https://wtop.com/mlb/2019/11/42-teams-targeted-to-be-dropped-from-current-minor-leagues/

Hasnt happened yet.  Theyve beeen haggling over the restructuring of MiLB for a couple years now.  As of late April there was still no deal. Some teams may not survive covid which will ironically make the restructuring easier.  Thats a lot more tragic than Boise dropping baseball after a handful of games.

People have a general lack of understanding of how baseball scholarships work. You’re right. Those kids could transfer. But those kids have to pay to do that. Baseball is basically pay for play. The scholarship money isn’t why Boise dropped baseball. It’s the field maintenance, the travel, the coaching salaries, and on and on.

Which is why so many kids transfer each year.  No incentive to stay somewhere if you're unhappy or not playing if you are only getting a 25% scholarship.  The kids at Boise, contrary to the whiny righteous indignation of some, will be just fine.
