If it wasn’t already taken, the Scarlet Knights would have been kind of cool to keep with the knights theme in Vegas.

I haven't seen that the name is changing. I would be against that.

As far as the mascot, who gives a shit.

The Rat Pack would actually be pretty cool.

How about "Nevadans".  Like the Utah Utes we can simply be the University of Nevada Nevadans.

The Sharks?
The Has-beens?

But really, Rebels is perfect for UNLV. What could be a better mascot than one that pays homage to a well-known, distant glory that happened over a relatively small sliver in time, but is completely blind to the misery that ensued.

A Ute is a Native American, btw. Someone from the state of Utah is a Utahn.

Red Bulls.   Can keep their chant and the drink is a fixture in the bars on the strip.

I think this is pretty silly.  I thought Rebels was to show they weren't UNR?

It was. Maybe the Rebels just get a new mascot and ditch the Colonel Sanders?

Their student section could be the Chum, or The 1991s?

I can't wait until people try this against the southern schools.

Tigers, Rebels, Gamecocks, Tar Heels, Volunteers, Lane Stadium (Confederate General), "Dixie" played by Ole Miss, Georgia, and Auburn.  They may secede again.
