THE Problem with the Death Penalty...

Recommended Posts

Putting innocent people to death.

https://www.foxnews.com/us/philadelphia-death-row-inmate-freed-after-conviction-in-childs-murder-reversed

I favor the death penalty in theory, but I’d rather see all of those convicted spend their lives in prison than put one innocent person to death. Having said that, if I were a governor or president, there are many people on death row whose sentences I wouldn’t commute. Wishy washy I know.

My issues with the death penalty go far beyond simply the possibility of putting an innocent person to death. While that would be tragic and a good enough reason in and of itself, I strongly disagree with the state having the power to end someone's life, "deserved" or not.

State funded abortion OK?  Just curious.

The state should never pay for abortions. Legality is one thing, state funding is another.

I’m into revenge if it’s 100% certain the person committed the murder, Combination of evidence including witnesses, dna evidence, video, confession, etc. Bundy, Dahmer, etc.

Death is an escape for them.  Throw them into a cell with 24 hr lockdown.  Provide them with bologna sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a glass of water with each meal.  That’s it.  Let them sit in a cell the rest of their lives, don’t provide life saving medical care at an extraordinary cost to the tax payers, only minimal care to prevent things like infections from spreading.

The death penalty should be abolished.  Except in the case of treason but I don’t think anybody has been tried and convicted of treason in a long time.

There are so many good reasons to abolish the death penalty and so few (really only one - vengeance) to keep it that I can’t believe it’s even still a debate. America loves us some punishment.

If someone is incarcerated, they pose zero threat to society. Empowering the state to conduct murder is one of the most authoritarian acts there can be.

How would you feel if your parents or wife and kids were murdered in front of you?

Meh, the last guy you kill is the mass murderer.  That's the one you really need to study.

I used to be a strong proponent of the death penalty, and I still am to some degree. But with modern technology there needs to be stricter standards to who qualifies. DNA evidence needs to be there, and in a way that would be extremely unlikely that the person could be framed. But in special circumstances, DNA doesn’t need to be a requirement if there’s clear video identifying who it is, and even a large number of witnesses such as a mass shooting with a mask off. I’m good with that kind of criteria all day long even if it’s possible 1 in a million get incorrectly put down. Life isn’t always fair and shit happens. Should we stop driving because innocent people are getting killed by drunk drivers? No, and I think the same applies to the death penalty.

As far as those people that are outraged about putting down men that rape torture and kill little girls and women, I see them simply as big pvssies.

I wouldn’t give a shit what happens to the guy because my life has been ruined regardless.

Yeah as angry as I’d be, my pain and anger wouldn’t go away with his death.

Well maybe they should offer the victims family to press the button or pull the trigger..

I say we just let the victim(s) pick the punishment. You kill a family member of mine, your punishment would be I pick a family member of yours to be killed. That should stop a lot of violence crimes.

I like the idea although most that intentionally murder have probably been disowned and don’t give a shit about their families.
