When it comes to the cities themselves, Detroit is way better than Cleveland. Downtown Detroit is fun. Downtown Cleveland has the Rock and Roll Hall of fame and that's about it. No idea what it would be like to actually live in either place though.

It's a quote from a comedy video.

The MAC, Sunbelt, and C-USA are dying. Some MWC and AAC schools are in bad shape.

So is the MWC, just more slowly. (Are some AAC schools in trouble? That's news to me but I don't pay much attention to that conference anymore.)

The MAC will probably survive for just as long as the MWC since it is much more logical geographically and there's no chance of any of its members being poached by a power conference. By the end of this decade each will look different than it does today.

MAC making changes to travel rosters and won’t stay in a hotel the night before a game.

So let me get this straight. For MAC conference games, the home team will be able to have a roster of 85 scholarship players plus 15 or so walkons whereas the visiting team will have a roster of no more than 70 players? Is that in theory to balance the alleged detriment to the home team of not being able to put their players up in a hotel the night before?  As if schools won't just short circuit that by creating a football residency hall and having the players stay there?

If a tree falls in the woods but nobody is around, does it make a sound?

Typically, no.  But when one of its alums was the main cog in a Dodgers championship run then there is a sound.

If I did the Detroit area I think it would be cool to live on the Canada side in Windsor. That way I could cross the bridge or take the tunnel to Detroit to catch a Lions/Tigers game if I wanted to.

So you’d rather live in another country than in Detroit? :D

Windsor sucks. It is dangerous by Canadian standards. In fact, I asked a Canadian last summer about the shittiest city in Canada and Windsor was the answer without hesitation (Hamilton is another common answer). I've stayed there and I'd prefer to be in Detroit.

The show Low Winter Sun took place in Detroit. When they needed someone from the underworld to do their dirty work, they went to Windsor.

coming from Memphis it's probably a good bit safer so it would still be an upgrade lol. It's the southern most Canadian city so the climate would be more 'American' I'd think. They have casino jobs along with being the HQ for almost every major US automakers 'Canadian Division' plus a huge VistaPrint factory. I would also think the Ambassador Bridge plus the tunnel would provide easy access to the US.

but I've never been there...I'll have to visit sometime, get a Canada stamp on my passport

https://www.pionline.com/defined-contribution/duke-georgetown-suspending-retirement-contributions

Duke University and Georgetown University will suspend contributions to their employee retirement plans and make other cutbacks to address an escalating financial crisis caused by the corona virus pandemic, presidents of the schools said.
In a message Wednesday to Duke faculty and staff, President Vincent E. Price announced several cost-cutting measures, including temporarily suspending the university's retirement contributions for one year.
"To avoid cutting direct compensation, we will instead temporarily suspend all employer contributions to the Duke Faculty and Staff Retirement 403(b) plan for a period of 12 months," Mr. Price said in the message.
Duke employees who earn more than the federally mandated 403(b) contribution threshold of $285,000 will also see a temporary 10% reduction in the portion of their salary above that threshold, for 12 months. Those measures and other cost-saving efforts will save an estimated $150 million to $200 million next fiscal year, he said, "and provide, we hope, the necessary resources to sustain and advance our academic programs for the near-term."

I have also seen articles that St. Louis University (a private school) and Vanderbilt University (also private) are considering salary and / or retirement cuts for employees. Apparently no final decisions have been made as yet. I have read no reports of large scale employee cuts as yet.

None of these directly effect sports programs yet, but may well do so in future.

Also I would have serious reservations attending a university whose president was named Vincent Price.

I did not add earlier that Bowling Green State University (Ohio) announced the elimination of Baseball. Another blow to men's sports. Their players who have scollies will keep them and the coaches are gone.

A baseball scholarship isn’t worth much.

Try Montreal instead. A beautiful city with beautiful women, beautiful neighborhoods, beautiful parks and golf courses in which about 60 percent of residents speak English as a first or second language. I rate it #1 in north America. But go there in summer or early fall only.
