GAME THREAD: 2020 United States Presidential Election, featuring the Battle for Control of the Senate and the House

Recommended Posts

He announced in the speech an Executive Order to create a "National Garden of American Heroes". A task force will lay out more info in the next 60 days.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-building-rebuilding-monuments-american-heroes/

The Order says the Garden will include "statues of John Adams, Susan B. Anthony, Clara Barton, Daniel Boone, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Henry Clay, Davy Crockett, Frederick Douglass, Amelia Earhart, Benjamin Franklin, Billy Graham, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Douglas MacArthur, Dolley Madison, James Madison, Christa McAuliffe, Audie Murphy, George S. Patton, Jr., Ronald Reagan, Jackie Robinson, Betsy Ross, Antonin Scalia, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington, George Washington, and Orville and Wilbur Wright."

The Order also says the Garden should recognize "historically significant Americans". That is considered:

Quote

Examples include:  the Founding Fathers, those who fought for the abolition of slavery or participated in the underground railroad, heroes of the United States Armed Forces, recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor or Presidential Medal of Freedom, scientists and inventors, entrepreneurs, civil rights leaders, missionaries and religious leaders, pioneers and explorers, police officers and firefighters killed or injured in the line of duty, labor leaders, advocates for the poor and disadvantaged, opponents of national socialism or international socialism, former Presidents of the United States and other elected officials, judges and justices, astronauts, authors, intellectuals, artists, and teachers.  None will have lived perfect lives, but all will be worth honoring, remembering, and studying.

The term “historically significant American” means an individual who was, or became, an American citizen and was a public figure who made substantive contributions to America’s public life or otherwise had a substantive effect on America’s history.  The phrase also includes public figures such as Christopher Columbus, Junipero Serra, and the Marquis de La Fayette, who lived prior to or during the American Revolution and were not American citizens, but who made substantive historical contributions to the discovery, development, or independence of the future United States.

It also says that it should "consider the availability of authority to encourage and accept the donation or loan of statues by States, localities, civic organizations, businesses, religious organizations, and individuals, for display at the National Garden."

But I see nothing that mentions who will actually be recognized in the National Garden beyond the listed names above. There is no process mentioned for approval of additional recognition of individuals beyond laying out some guidelines of who should be recognized.

Also, if the donation of statues is encouraged then what process will be used to accept and reject donated statues.

The task force will need to lay out a good non-political process about who gets included.

Otherwise it will just become a site for culture wars since everyone has their own opinions about who has made "substantive contributions" to the country.

Not gonna happen. I wouldn’t vote for Biden or Trump if you put a gun to my head.

Yeah I understand.  Just being clear my priority is to remove Trump first.  Who I vote for is second.  Heck I would offer you two Jo CA votes for an AZ Biden vote.

Where is he getting funding for said garden.  He seems to forget that Congress controls the purse.   Perhaps he will declare a fake national emergency again.  Not heard much about that “emergency” on the southern border have we?

Remember, his building in Las Vegas is a non-gaming,  off-strip condo-tel where the owners Airbnb their rooms out.

He couldn't get a Nevada gaming license.

As opposed to a guy who lied about his education and has won office in a state where Jeffrey Epstein could run post mortem as a Democrat and win 60%+ of the vote? Or the other guy who has driven six businesses to bankruptcy. Lol — yeah, GTFO with that shit.

A lot of the guys on this board crack me up. They think things are going to be better with Biden. Biden isn’t a blow hard like Trump but his policies are worse and he has dementia. Jorgensen is better than both. People keep voting imbeciles in and expect miracles. The biggest miracle will be Biden lasting for four years. We are going to be stuck with the same problems for four more years.

Yeah he was talking about building stuff in the middle of no where.  It wasn’t an awful speech and parts of it I with which I agree.  The cancel culture will inhibit freedom of speech but he put forward no proposals to deal with it.

What is most scary is the blatant authoritarian instincts of the man.   It was said when fascism comes to the US it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross.   We now see it has the face of Donald Trump.

Demonizing his political opponents.  Creating “laws” via executive order to imprison people for at least 10 years.   It was once the Soviet Union that imprisoned people for not showing respect for a statue.  Now it is us.  He has no use of Congress and will fund his park whether Congress approves the funds or not.

Should this man be elected God help us.......

Biden isn’t great.   But Biden is not a clear authoritarian who would put people in prison via executive order.......

we will have problems sure... but authoritarianism won’t be one of them.

You tell your wife who to vote for and she just does it? Do you just snap your fingers and she jumps up to make you a sandwich? Jesus man, this isn’t the 1950s.

My wife ignores/detests politics.  She knows I spend hours debating people like you so generally, though not always, she follows my advice.   And if I told her we were trading two votes for Jo in CA for a Joe vote in AZ, given she hates Trump more than me, she would for sure agree.

Very little...  she mostly tells me.  Lol

When you are married 31 years you tend to have areas in which you specialize and rely on your spouse.  We also have very similar political views which might be why we have been married so long.   Not sure how George and Kellyanne Conway are still married.

I watched Biden’s speech on COVID last weekend.  Thought he spoke well and during Q&A handled the questions well.  There were some zinger questions.

Regarding the debates and cognitive ability, Biden says Trump let’s F-ing get it on dog face.

Two old men fighting.  I think it will be better than Biden-Sanders (they kept it cordial).  I can’t wait.

I dunno, I'd say Trump's main policy, which is throwing gas on the flames of the culture war, is actually turning out to be pretty fing unhealthy for the nation. Literally and figuratively, pretty fing unhealthy.

There's a solid argument to be made that this division and culture war stuff is the biggest threat to the U.S. right now and only two candidates have the chance to be elected president in 2020. Jorgensen is not a serious candidate.

Nobody thinks Biden will be a great president, probably "placeholder" is all we're asking for, but I'd say it's a good idea not to go with the guy that wakes up every morning with the intent of dividing us further like it's some game, all during a time of great unrest and a public health disaster.

I have zero doubt Jo Jorgensen would be the best president since Abraham Lincoln.

I think things will “be better” by default by removing Trump. But that’s a pretty easy bar to clear. Biden is running on “nothing will fundamentally change”, so yea people expecting big changes are deluding themselves and will be disappointed. I’m still debating wether or not he’s going to get my vote.
