GAME THREAD: 2020 United States Presidential Election, featuring the Battle for Control of the Senate and the House

Prez to speak in about a half hour. Concession?!?!?!

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

Translation - Some of you on SCOTUS owe your positions to Trump.

Harmeet Dhillon is the absolute worst sort of opportunist. She was one of the figureheads accusing California of voter suppression when it ordered the removal of the fake "official" ballot collection boxes installed by the CA GOP.

Democrats need to RUTHLESSLY go after McConnell and those senate seats in Georgia.  Trump isn't going to sign anything anyway in the lame duck.

When they get the senate they all need to run as if they will all lose reelection and cram through as much as is necessary.  They already made the mistake with Obama to waste 2 years at the start of his term.  Their best chance of winning in 2022 is not to go into the "Prevent D."   They need to get a crap load passed because they will be called socialists no matter what anyway so you may as well get your base hyped up.

Unlikely.  In Obama's first term it was 58-40 in the senate, 255-178 in the house and we got Mitt Romney's health care plan.  I don't think anything even remotely socialist is going to pass with a best-case 50-50 senate and 220 house.

The Dems need the Supreme Court to throw out pre-existing conditions and make the election about healthcare.

Hm, that’s a good point too. If they make that ruling you will have two Senators that voted to confirm 3 of the justices responsible. Between that and COVID relief there would be a lot of ad material.

Yeah, that would be great!

SCOTUS will strip the individual mandate but leave the rest of the law in place.

It should be a civil rights play...voting rights...black votes in DC...Puerto Rico.  Black people have a historic opportunity to finally stick it to the man and get equal rights and prevent future voter suppression.   It could be the stake in the heart of white supremacy.

I dont think the SecDef having a letter of resignation is that big of a deal.  If Trump loses, he's gone anyways.  If Trump wins, 2nd termers almost always do big changes with the Cabinet.  And Cabinet Secretaries know this - which is why most of them probably have a similar letter or will shortly.

Strange timing though.

Epic national meltdown on live TV?

I'm going to be in a district meeting, but thankfully it's on Zoom and I don't have to show my face. I'll definitely be watching.
