LOL   Has Trump accepted it yet?

Finding a person who is a complete Syncopate and a PR specialist is a hard combo.   Most PR specialists make their money by convincing their client to modify their positions.

Shocker... another Trump underling falls on his sword after handling the dirty work.

On the bright side, at least he's gone.

The list is long and distinguished.   You wonder when people might consider who the root cause of this continuous crap would be.

I believe the resignation has been accepted.  Just heard he’s officially resigned.

At least he knew he was done.

Or to put it another way, he isn't quite the total narcissist that Trump is.

Just another brilliant Trump appointment in a looooong line of them.

You can't make this shit up. A guy was fired for bad press. But, then that in itself was bad press. So the guy that fired the guy was fired.

At some point between confirming his comments and the later apology, Modly wrote this in response to the Times OpEd:

https://web.archive.org/web/20200407015728/https://navylive.dodlive.mil/2020/04/06/acting-secretary-of-the-navy-letter-to-the-new-york-times/

It was subsequently deleted, but not before it was archived.

Yeah I read that at the time.   If he had stuck to that PR campaign he would still have a job.  How much of it is true is debatable as it insinuates the Chain on command was responding and he jumped the gun.   Given from past history of the Trump administration I have severe doubts but it would have mollified the armed services supporters of Trump.  Instead he poured gasoline on the fire with his recorded speech.

Task & Purpose has the memo Modly wrote saying goodbye. It is supposed to be published to the Navy Live blog later this week.

Modly writes:

Quote

"The crew deserved a lot more empathy and a lot less lecturing, I lost sight of that at the time and I am deeply sorry for some of the words and for how they were spread across the media landscape like a wildfire. I had hoped to transmit a message of love, and duty, and mission, and courage in the face of adversity. Those words are in there, but they are now lost, because of me, and I will regret that for the rest of my life. But, I am not a football head coach, or a master chief, or even the ship’s own CO, I am the Secretary of the Navy and you, and they, should expect more out of me. I own it."

"I realize that I have consistently told each and every one of you 'Don’t Ever, Ever Give Up the Ship,'" Modley continued, explaining that he loved the Navy and Marine Corps, which he called "our ship."

"You are all on my one big ship," Modly wrote. "But the ramifications of mistakes, even simple ones, when someone is charged with protecting a ship that large and that important can be fatal. It is not just missiles that can take us down, words can do it too, if we aren’t careful with how and when we use them."

He added: "My lack of situational awareness due to my emotions of the moment did the exact same thing to MY ship, as I would hold you accountable for as you lead yours. I brought incoming fire onto our team and I am convinced that the fire will continue unrelentingly until the target is gone. I know what I have to do save the ship. I have always tried to do the right thing for all of you. Always. I never cared about the title, I cared about the relationships. I trust you all know that and that you know how terribly sad I am right now that I disappointed you by not keeping our ship out of harm’s way. It’s my fault. I own it."

Modly is ex-Navy himself. So I think a lot of his "I own it" is real and not trying to take heat off someone else.

His use of "situation awareness" in this memo is interesting. He used the same wording about Crozier.

He was either to stupid or naive to not expect his speech to leak.

Like I said earlier, I think we are shooting the messenger and Trump was behind the whole thing.  I feel sorry for the guy as his career is tarnished.

I would probably respectfully decline positions with his presidency.  It is too tumultuous and Apprentice-like.

The more I have thought about it the more I wonder if Kushner or someone else like him at the White House was actually behind Crozier being ousted.

Good riddance. Modly lost the respect of his sailors when he mocked Crozier.

Perhaps but Trump was informed.   As one anti Crozier writer said you don’t take a carrier off-line without the Presidents consent.  Especially one who micro manages like Trump.   Modley made multiple statements implicating Trump on Friday before it blew up.  Trump wanted him fired and Crozier wanted action at a faster pace than the President wanted to go.   Trump was even quoted asking if more than a couple sailors were getting off.   If Crozier was being blocked, Trump was blocking him.

If it's a bad decision then Kushner was involved

Trump is the exact opposite of a micromanaging president.  He does not have the ability to be one.

Over CoronaVirus?  He’s over riding doctors on Medical advice.  He has an official team and Kushner on distribution.  He’s telling Governor’s their state estimates are off.   In what reality is he going to be uninformed and not opinionated about a Carrier becoming non-operational due to Corona Virus?

As Commander in Chief it’s one area where he legitimately should be involved.   But, we are suppose to believe Trump had nothing to do with the removal of Crozier.

On the flip side, Cuomo was saying he needed 40k ventilators but with the updated projections here:

https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america/new-york

He’s only going to need 5,700.  Which, if that holds, means Trump was right.

The governors estimates will be off. Trump was 100% correct. Far off.  You are confusing press briefings for micromanaging.  Trump is on this and always has been a delegator.
