"I’d be lying to you to say that he hasn’t been responsive to our needs. He has," Newsom told CNN's Jake Tapper. "And so, as a question, as a sort of an offer of objectivity, I have to acknowledge that publicly. The fact is, every time I've called the president, he's quickly gotten on the line."

I usually can’t stand Newsom, but I have much more respect for his character now for being truly objective without fear of a big backlash from Dems. It’s nice to see at least some people are putting politics aside.

Gavin is a lying asshole who has encouraged people to narc out their neighbors for going outside, threatened martial law, and talked about this being an opportunity to move the country towards socialism..  You like him now just cause he said something nice about Trump?  Phuck both of them.

What should be happening is the federal government should just be distributung aid and supplies according to non partisan needs.  But everyone know you need to kiss Trumps ass to get things done.  That is why he likes Bin Salman so much and gives them aid but wants to cut NATO.  Everyone knows what you must do to get what you need from him.

But WTF is Trump thinking by not helping out swing state MICHIGAN as much as possible.

Whatever he’s doing, it’s having a big impact in controlling the virus and saving a lot of lives in Cali, unless of course he’s fudging the numbers which is entirely possible as ambitious as he appears to be.

FFS.  Do you know how long CA put shelter in place before NY?

Two days.

There are hundreds of factors, most of which we don't understand.   And of course there is luck.  That go into why some states or countries aren't getting hit as hard as others.

Yes, New York is more densely populated, but LA, SD, SF, and Sac are huge cities in themselves. The statistical difference is baffling. Maybe his threats are having more effect than Coumo did in New York.

Dude, I’m the regular Newsom basher around here. But I try to see things objectively and he deserves credit for not doing what 95% of his constituency wants him to do, and that’s to not give Trump any credit for anything and always find and even make up things to rip on him for. I’m sure he got plenty of real death threats for doing that. Overall he’s still a nut job and crappy leader. But it’s nice to see a Dem with enough balls to praise him.

If anyone on the left praises Trump, they will have to pay the price for doing so. The other day Dana Bash at CNN praised Trump’s tone and demeanor and what Americans are looking for in a prez. There was an instant HUGE backlash on her from fellow workers and everyone else, so she had to go on Twitter and walk her comments back the best that she could. So that’s one example of how saying anything good about Trump as a Dem will get you in big, big trouble.

Shutting own China air travel saved a lot of early grief for western states like California. The map below is dated but still gives you an idea of where Chinese Americans live. Try hanging out at LAX. There are Chinese and other Asians everywhere.

Scientists and doctors are wondering if California might have gotten one of the first strains of the virus directly from China before it had a chance to mutate. Supposedly there are 8 different strains of Covid-19 traveling around the world and New York got hit with the one that is in Italy. Just speculation, but it makes you wonder. Since California implemented its shelter in place the other strains haven't been able to gain a foothold here.

LOL at you for being a total extremist hopeless partisan assshole that could never put politics aside to help people and be a big boy. It’s people like you that think you’re so progressive, but your extreme hate makes you a regressive back to the times when hate ruled an uncivilized culture.

I'm sure a lot of Corona virus cases and deaths were attributed to the flu in CA the first three months of the year.

Wait, are you are saying that you think people died after being sick enough to be hospitalized, got tested for the flu, tested negative for the flu, died, and then the doctor’s said, “yea let’s just say they died from the flu, they were hella sick and shit, so close enough”. That’s.... pretty ridiculous.

I think he means that some had the regular flu when they got a double whammy by also getting C19. The flu being an under lying condition that weakened their immune system when C19 hit them.

Yea but they still would have tested positive for Covid. And if they weren’t tested and treated with nobody knowing they had Covid, then a bunch of healthcare professionals been infected which would have undoubtedly raised a bunch of red flags.

In some states the cause of death has been listed as other reasons even if the deceased tested positive for coronavirus.

Quote

A coroner in Indiana wanted to know if the coronavirus had killed a man in early March, but said that her health department denied a test. Paramedics in New York City say that many patients who died at home were never tested for the coronavirus, even if they showed telltale signs of infection.

In Virginia, a funeral director prepared the remains of three people after health workers cautioned her that they each had tested positive for the coronavirus. But only one of the three people had the virus noted on the death certificate.

<snip>

More than 9,100 people with the coronavirus have been reported to have died in this country as of this weekend, but hospital officials, doctors, public health experts and medical examiners say that official counts have failed to capture the true number of Americans dying in this pandemic, as a result of inconsistent protocols, limited resources and a patchwork of decision-making from one state or county to the next.

In many rural areas, coroners say they don’t have the tests they need to detect the disease. Doctors now believe that some deaths in February and early March, before the coronavirus reached epidemic levels in the United States, were likely misidentified as influenza or only described as pneumonia.

With no uniform system for reporting coronavirus-related deaths in the United States, and a continued shortage of tests, some states and counties have improvised, obfuscated and, at times, backtracked in counting the dead.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/05/us/coronavirus-deaths-undercount.html

The CDC just a few days ago issued guidance on reporting of cause of death to try to get better national counts.

The Democrats and their big $ donors???? '

Your claim is that the poor Republicans have to rely of small $ donors like Sheldon Adelson, the Koch Brothers, Warren Stephens, Steve Wynn, etc.  Poor, poor Republicans.  They are soooo disadvantaged.

Did you not get at all what I said?  The democrat $ donors are preventing Dems in congress from working with Trump.  Resist - remember!

And Kock Bro's are not active Trump supporters, a bunch of Republican donors aren't.

I've been critical of Newsom and still am, but I'll give him credit where it's due in that he's been quick about implementing his state of emergency and getting the state to shelter in place to help flatten the curve. the Bay Area and LA are still very much at risk, but it could have spiraled out of control very easily in the beginning.

I didn't vote for Newsom, but I agree with your analysis. California was the first state to issue a Stay At Home order, and I give Newsom props for that.
