Nevada's 6' 9" quarterback

He's going to need to pack on some pounds or wear a suit of armor.

That was my thought. But apparently packed some on in JuCo (listed at 240 on their roster). Picture is from HS.

Definitely an intriguing signing. We just desperately needed depth at QB for this season. Our only QBs are Strong and Bennett (the transfer from Boise) this year, and considering all the injuries we had last year thats pretty dangerous.

Cox started out as a walkon at Louisiana Tech then transferred to a JC. Norvell likes to fill his backup QBs with high ceiling/low floor types and I like it. You need to take risks at this level.

Cox is 1 inch taller than the tallest quarterback to ever play in the N.F.L. - that being Dan McGwire (who was 6' 8" tall).  McGwire played in the NFL for five seasons - 4 with Seattle and the last season with Miami.  He played in a total of 13 games in those five years in the NFL.

He was also Mark McGwire's brother.

Nate Cox sure is tall. Did he play basketball at that Juco in Kansas as well?

And a very good QB at SDSU after transferring from Iowa.

So good that Coach Lugenbill then brought in another power forward type, Cree Morris. Although Morris became the starter after sitting behind McGwire for a year, he pretty much stunk so about three games in Lugie turned to 8-inch smaller David Lowery who was terrific for a couple years. Moral of the story: Some very tall QBs work out well but simply being able to see over defensive linemen does not a good QB make.

Don’t you mean Mallory McGwire’s father Dan McGwire? Who is Mark?
