CSU Board of Trustees and SDSU update

Recommended Posts

CSU Board of trustees approves design and financing plan for Stadium.

“SDSU continues to work with the City of San Diego toward a completed purchase and sales agreement.“

Hope these negotiations go better than most things involving SD go.

Okay, in reading today's UT article on the the above referenced action, some highlights:

1. CSU Trustees ok'd $310 million in revenue bonds to fund stadium construction, so the school has access to this money for design and construction costs at the moment.

-2/3 of bonds to be paid back over 30 years using stadium generated revenue

    - remaining bonds to be paid back over 15 years or less thru PSLs and philanthropic gifts.

2. City and SDSU have agreed on larger points of sale of land, $87.7 million price, the finer points still need to be ironed out, which could take months....uh oh

3. The $310 million is separate from the $350 million the school has set aside for purchase of the land and further development.

     -4600 residential units

-80 acres of parks and open space

-1.6 million SF of office and research space

     -400 hotel rooms

     -95,000 SF of campus retail

     -13,000 parking spaces

4. The entire project is expected to be completed in 2037 at an estimated cost of $3 billion dollars.

Hope I'm around to see some of the project get completed :foottap:

Any word on the playing surface ?

For the Athletes sake, I'm hoping for natural grass. Just like the firm and fast surface we have always played on.

Plus, the history of having done so.

Are we the only MW team still going au natural ?

If the plan is to host a lot of events, it will be turf.

Even MLS has turf fields.

Not many though, and probably reluctantly. I wonder if any of them get covered in real grass for matches

I've been to a couple of Reno 1868 USL matches and been impressed at how they bring in turf to cover the baseball infield. Turf that may only get used for a single game. If a USL team can do this, I'm sure an MLS team could do an entire field. Soccer on artificial turf sucks.
