As soon as public employees start getting laid off we'll see the country open back up real quick

For the most part, layoffs are now passe. Government employees now get furloughed, which means they simply have their hours cut. Mayor Garcetti just announced as much for L.A. during his state of the city address yesterday. Cops and firefighters won't even get furloughed, they're simply too necessary, particularly during a crisis like this.

But don't worry, Bob. Those public employees will take a punch in the gut over the long term because in most states, cities rely heavily on sales taxes and with the exception of the occasional new car marked way down because auto dealers are really taking it in the shorts, L.A. isn't earning diddly squat these days because such a large percentage of people's expenditures is now going for food and that isn't taxable.

Boom goes the dynamite.

I always love it when guys protest the IRS who have probably paid a minute fraction as much income tax in their life as my wife and I have.

Boom goes the dynamite.

So if FB says you can't tell people that there will be a protest going on, your okay with that because you don't want the protest to occur and you don't want people to make their own choice on the matter.
So you should be watching Trump then so he can tell you what you should be doing right?

The Orange Menace would rather pat himself on the back then answer simple questions.

As for Facebook protest; if idiots want to congregate, infect each other, infect their loved ones, and then people simply in proximity, they should find their own platform to talk on. Facebook complied with a common sense request.

I'm only putting this here because it may not deserve its own thread, and it pertains to US China relations during Covid.

Keep an eye out for this, it should break into the evening news in the next day or two.  Might be nothing or could wind up being a big deal pretty soon.

Not sure if the America deployed with F35 b on it or not.

Meh.  We're not gonna' pick a fight with one ship.  I'm sure this is a case of "hey look, we're here too".

Well, sure.  This isn't some first deployment in WWIII.  And we have been doing freedom of navigation operations in the South China Sea since Obama's first term.  I would argue it is a situation that could easily escalate into a major incident though, given the current state of affairs.

It could, but I don't think it will.  China knows they're on the international hot seat right now.  I'd guess they are looking for ways to save face and get out of their international pickle rather than exacerbate anything.  We can push them pretty hard right now if it stays out of the papers (trade, etc.).  I don't see any country other than third world crazies wanting to get into an altercation in the middle of dealing with a pandemic at home.

This is literally an argument for why isolating China through bilateral trade and removing production makes WW3 more likely.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

Maybe he is just getting old and forgetful. I've been concerned about the age of both major candidates. :oldman:

President Trump in the past - "I have one of the great memories of all time."

But today "I haven’t left the White House in months except for a brief moment to give a ship the Comfort..."

Maybe if Trump had said "weeks", but "months" is stretching it.

Campaign Rallies - 3/2/2020 Charlotte NC; 2/28/2020 North Charleston SC; 2/21/2020 Las Vegas NV; 2/20/2020 Colorado Springs CO; 2/19/2020 Phoenix AZ; 2/10/2020 Manchester NH

Golf Outings - 3/08/2020 Trump Intl, West Palm Beach, FL; 3/07/2020 Trump Intl, West Palm Beach, FL; 2/15/2020 Trump Intl, West Palm Beach, FL

Other travel in Feb and March: 3/6//2020 Nashville TN & Atlanta GA; 3/5/2020 Scranton PA; 3/3/2020 Behesda MD; 2/29/2020 National Harbor MD; 2/24-25/2020 New Delhi India; 2/19/2020 Bakersfield & Rancho Mirage CA; 2/18/2020 Beverly Hills CA; 2/16/2020 Dayton Beach FL; and more in February

I mean... unless they become an effective monopoly and they're an impediment to a free market, right?

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.
