And it’s NOT working for them.  What a shocker!!!

Ummmm, it certainly seems to be. UNR had the dominant program while Muss was doing it and SDSU put together one of the best teams in MW history doing it. It actually seems to be the model of success.

Welcome to the new normal. Half your roster is going to end up being transfers because half your freshmen are going to transfer. Free Agency at it's best (or worst).

Wrong!  New Mexico finished in the bottom half of the conference with the second most talented roster.

They also had massive suspensions and injuries. Besides, they would definitely seem to be the exception to the rule. Boise won the conference without transfers, but most of the best teams in this league seem to utilize transfers

You guys always got the selfish ones who were all about showcasing their individual talent and probably chose UNLV because they knew they could walk all over Rice.  Those recruits didn't amount to shit for you guys.

The quality McD AAs go to the elite programs.

In addition, UNLV progressively got worse every year Rice was in charge.

Seems like a lot of MW schools now following the Musselman plan of building a roster through transfers.

It’s like FA at the professional level. If you bring in the right pieces, it just might push you to the top, but if you miss on who you bring in... 🙄

That's because they utilized sloppy seconds.  Paul Weir is not designed to handle headcases.  He still refuses to recruit HS players.

Why are you still talking about UNM? The last four MW Champions did it on the backs of transfers

ph, I'm not going to do your research for you. You would do well to Google a bit before you start pulling factoids like the above out of your nether regions. :)

Musselman's "plan" was to blow up his entire roster and stock it with upperclassmen and grad transfers so he could pad his resume and get the phuck out of Dodge. That's entirely different than chasing transfers to fill holes due to early departures, recruiting misses or to balance a class, which is what most coaches do.

SDSU has been chasing bigs for a long time.  It's a flaw in our recruiting. Spencer...big gap....Mensah.  The big gap has been filled with some decent players but mostly pedestrian players and some bad misses.

Everybody takes transfers these days.  It is the way.

Nope.....no transfers at AF (or Army +Navy). Add that to playing in the MWC not the Patriot Conference and AF is the toughest coaching job in the NCAA. GO FALCONS

..GO FALCONS..

That's long been the way for UNM.

Danny Granger, Drew Gordon, Darington Hobson, and JR Giddens were all key parts of successful Lobo teams.

You're not gonna win a ton in this league without transfers

It is a pretty mercenary business these days.  Coaches come and go and players come and go.  It is fun watching freshmen grow over 4 or 5 years but it doesn't really happen all that much anymore.

I don't think it is a bad thing.  Nevada has lost their share of good players to the new normal but also benefitted by bringing in some talented transfers too.

Wouldn't call them one of the best in MW history.  Couldn't even win the MWT.  Just because they feasted on a watered down league does not mean they were one of the best in the history of the league.

They finished ranked higher than any team in MW history I believe, hard to argue against that...

They would have been a #1 or 2 seed in the tournament. How many teams in league history has done that?

Nevada had some good teams but not historically speaking.

The original MWC was far better than they are now.  Losing Utah and BYU hurt but what really devastated the league was the demise of UNLV and NM.  They have to be good every year along with SDSU for this conference to rise.  Other schools bubble up for a year or 2 but the conference doesn't count on them as much as the big 3 to elevate the conference.
