They where calling Reno UNR when I was in elementary; even in high school we called it UNR. Lol. I don't know any of this other talk

It's UNLV baaaaaabyyyyy

Reno is a small city in Northern Nevada.  There is no University of Reno.  I have no problem with people referring to the University of Nevada- Reno as UNR.  Your school is officially the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.  However, your sports teams go by the made up name of UNLV.  That has never been your official name..UNR was just Nevada for close to 100 years before the University of Nevada- Las Vegas came along.  Like your school Nevada chose to refer to their sports teams as Nevada.  They had a very long history of doing just that.

The designations for the respective university's sports are UNLV and Nevada.

That is how they are referred to everywhere in the country except in Las Vegas.

In the poll listed above the poster chose to call Nevada "Nevada-Reno". If he or she insists on referring to the school this way, he or she should also refer to his or her own school as Nevada- Las Vegas.

So if you wish to be known as UNLV that is fine.  It is a made up name for your sports team that is in no way an official moniker.

But if you choose to roll with that in the interest of accuracy you should refer to Nevada as Nevada.  Both schools chose their own names for their sports programs.

By "almost lost" you mean "won by 7 and covered the spread," right?

And by "in Reno" you mean we "almost lost" to the same team that swept you and pushed your poo in twice so far that you're still talking shit after finishing 4th place in the conference? :rotflmfao:

The more things change, the more they stay the same I suppose.  ... a trend that will continue when we porn f*ck you in your own gym. Again.

3 point game with a minute to go. Such a comfortable win my man. Helluva cover. Probably were sweating bullets the entire game. Maybe even doubting the team and their success early that 2nd half.

Yup, the team that killed us game 1. Then we took to overtime game 2 after we lost Tillman to injury in the 1st half and started the era of our now small ball. Nutty, we missed 13 FTs. Shot 35% and missed 30 3's that game as well yet somehow stayed in it.

But hey that was 3 weeks ago and changed the outlook of this team for about the 10th time this season. It is what it is. The only team we haven't beaten this MWC season.

What matters is now. And if a 3 pt OT loss to a rival after putting up those shitty shooting numbers is getting our poo pushed in....I now understand all this shit talking like you have a brain injury. Its that your poo was pushed in so hard from that ass whooping the Rebels put on your Asstecs just last weekend that you now have some degree of CTE or amnesia or something.

28-1 is hella impressive, but lets stop pretending you're out there stomping Big 12 and ACC teams weekly.

A Yoeli Childsless BYU team early. A hot shooting few days in Vegas against a streaky shooting Creighton and one man show in Garza and Iowa, who forgot to show up....the rest of your schedule is beating up on lil bro USD and hitting buzzer beaters against SJSU.

Once again, impressive as +++++ record, and thats dead serious. But you don't have Zion and you just got your ass whooped last week. Lets stop pretending it can't happen again. Whether it be from UNLV, Boise, Reno, USU or even CSU. Last 3 games are proof that there is no easy out and nobody is intimidated by SDSU.

All is well, For Rice is gone.

Any SDSU fan would say this is one of your best 3pt shooting teams maybe ever.

Flynn  66-180 37%

Mitchell 38-96 40%

Feagin  48-127  38%

Schakel  61-141  43%

Reno is no threat?

Harris  67-180 37%

Johnson   88-210   42%

Drew    42-109  39%

Meeks   40-108   37%

Zouzoua   49-122   40%

Yeah for sure, Reno sucks and has no chance with shooters like that.

It's not HORSE.  It's basketball, which requires more than 3 point shooting.

Given your status as a  charter member of The Stupidest Fan Base In College Sports © , I shouldn't expect you to know such things.

LMAO. This never ends does it?

The northern based U in Nevada calls its sports teams "Nevada". It is the older school by about 80 years. This is just like Cal-Berkeley athletics (oldest) going by "California" and UT-Austin athletics going by " Texas"...( and can also use 20 other U.S. States as similar examples).  The fact that this annoys people in Clark county is just a cherry on the sundae. Also, did you know the Montana copper mining and RR rich guy they named Clark county after never lived  that area...? He put the railroad line in, that's it! William Clark.

To play devil's advocate, while Cal-Berkeley calls themselves "California" or "Cal" and even the media agrees, their rivals in LA call them "UCB" or "UC-Berkley".  Most states don't have the problem of two FBS-level schools in the same system like California and Nevada does, and if they do, it is usually the flagship and the state school, and the names reflect it.  I am trying to think of other examples, but I am drawing a blank.

Wut?

UNLV is a made up name?

It’s literally the initials..

But I don’t think there is one UNLV fan that would have a problem being called Nevada Las Vegas, or even simply Vegas.

What does it say on that college degree from Nevada- Las Vegas.  Does it say UNLV?  Your school came up with all this UNR-UNLV stuff because they were ashamed of the Nevada State designation.

I don't mind being called UNR..I was just commenting on the fact that silly Vegas people think they don't have the hyphen too..  If you are going to refer to Nevada as Nevada-Reno you have to call your school Nevada- Las Vegas.

It is very different than the university hierarchy and naming in other states.

By law since 1969 when you say "University of Nevada" and by extension "Nevada" you are referring to the higher education system and including the campuses in both Reno and Las Vegas.   If you feel that we are one university with two campuses then by all means say "University of Nevada" or "Nevada".  If you feel that we are two universities then specify which campus you mean.

The vast majority of the population of Nevada assumes you are talking about the campus on Maryland Parkway when you say "University of Nevada".  The use of "Nevada" has been considered nothing but an attempt to circumvent the law, just like those who go on Wikipedia and put "flagship" on the page for the university... since by law it is not a flagship university like those the other schools you are listing.
