Texas is about to build a new arena. And they'll be downsizing in the process.  The new arena money isnt in tickets and concessions, its in premium amenities.  Like TCU put in when they downsized, and like Texas will be doing.

From 16k to 10k (expandable to 15k). So that's nothing like the ridiculous 6.7k at TCU. Texas usually draws in the 8,000's with most games, and the actual BIS people at the games is much less than that. So 10k expandable to 15k sounds about right for the people they draw. If you're a Big 12 school and can only draw 4 to 5k BIS for most games in a 16k arena, that would look pretty bad.

Still don't get how byu is good. Other than their lone non 48 year old white dad that is good.  When we played them minus him it looked like a church ball rec league team from 1950 Indiana.

Have you driven around any town Utah before? Hoop in every backyard. And not the crap ones. I think Lifetime is headquartered there?? Mormons love their hoops (and pickleball.)

It was primarily a bad shooting night for BYU - especially in the first 10 minutes of the game.  And the defense wasn't particularly good that night, either.

BYU averages 42.2% from 3 (best in the country) and 50.3% on field goals overall (4th in the country).  Against Boise State, they were 29.2% from 3 and 37.8% overall.  TJ Haws was particularly putrid from the arc, going 0-8.  TJ had a rough start to the year after recovering from a knee surgery in the fall, but is shooting 47.7% from 3 in WCC games.

And without Yoeli, their inside offensive game wasn't very strong.  Kolby Lee, a sophomore out of Meridian's Rocky Mountain High, played the most minutes (29) in the post against Boise.  In addition to running funny, he has become a pretty nifty scorer - averaging 62.6% from the field and 50% from 3 (7 of 14) in 17.5 minutes per game.  Against Boise State, he did not play particularly well.  He was 3-9 from the field, really struggling against the size of his primary defender.

Jake Toolson seemed to be trying to show he was more than just a shooter.  He kept posting guys up, and that's not really his best use.  He's one of the best 3-point shooters on the best 3-point shooting team in the country (46.2%).  Jake attempted 20 shots in Boise, but only 4 were from 3.  He was 50% from 3, 35% overall - poor shot selection.

On the defensive end, BYU had difficulty guarding without fouling.  Nixon fouled out after just 17 minutes, with Seljaas and Harding accumulating 4 fouls each (thus the necessity of Kolby playing outsized minutes).  Boise State, wisely, continued to drive it to the rim, and BYU's foul troubles led to relatively uncontested layups.  Yoeli wasn't there as a rim protector, and neither was Gavin Baxter, who just got cleared to play a few games ago after sustaining an injury just before the season.

And sometimes good teams lose to inferior teams - especially on the road.  In fact, based on the NET rankings, San Diego State (5) losing a home game to UNLV (112) is much more surprising than BYU (14) losing a road game to Boise State (93).

Would three NCAA tournament bids make the WCC a college basketball power conference?

Of course it would! Just like the MWC became a power conference by getting four teams one year.

It won't make them a power conference, it makes them a very good conference. They have found their comfort zone and have some rising teams, still at least in my opinion it's only a year to year deal to get multiple teams in the NCAA's. For years right or wrong the NCAA snubbed bids for St Marys, it only means they are viewed as a non power conference and  that doesn't change the NCAA selection committees selection process very much.

You can’t declare you’re a power after a year or two. Hell, the PAC sucked last year with two or three teams in the Dance and will get five in this year. I don’t see the WCC maintaining over the long term.

From the time they first learn how to walk, BYU players are given both a bible and basketball.  And it shows in the photo below, a rare capture of a BYU player with a future recruit....

One word of advice though, if they say they will cross you over - run.
