Corona Virus - How bad is it going to be?

I took it as exactly what he said, that a government mandating a “medical procedure” was “alarming”. I think it depends on the context, and don’t find the mere concept of a “medical procedure” mandate alarming.

I guess I read it in the context of the poster as I know him and the overall conversation.  You kinda just get what people mean after a while, even if they don't word it perfectly.  I knew what he meant, know he is pro vax, know he is for restraints on the office of the executive.  Know he is common sense enough to know some mandates to perform or participate in some functions is rational.

just catching up...

so what if there is a new booster every year, are you just saying that it's a $$$ scam?

if so, did you always think that annual flu shots were a scam?

Definitely not a scam. I dunno, I'm just sick of all this shit and want to get on with life. That's more my point. At a certain point we have to accept risk and get back to living. Boosters definitely will be effective and necessary going forward, I just don't want everyone living in fear all the damn time. It seems like with every new variant the media wets themselves and gets to pump more fear porn.

I have not interacted much with him, so I took the post at face value. Regardless, he clarified so it’s all good.

I appreciate your granting some grace on my poor writing.

I fully support everyone getting vaccinated, but I understand why people have hestitations.

I don't.

I'm not going to waste my time talking/arguing/trying to convince anyone but I sincerely have no freaking clue why anyone is hesitant.

I mean the evidence is overwhelming it prevents serious illness and in a lot of cases prevents ever getting it. The only hesitation is it's a new enough treatment we don't know if there are long term negative effects. I doubt there will be, but you never know. There are enough stories of therapies being considered safe then turning out not to be to create doubt. Playing Devil's Advocate and trying to see all sides here. As I mentioned, I'm vaxxed + boosted and am down for it.

Yeah, if you have concerns talk to your doctor and follow their advice.  If you won't do that simple thing, you just want to be concerned for it's own sake lol.

I'm not comfortable with Presidents mandating things like this via executive order. We still don't know the long term effects of the vaccine, BTW. There are some that object.

As for the second paragraph, no idea why that's even being brought into this discussions. Trump was a terrible president and person and January 6 was despicable.

I just don't know how this country gets past the pandemic in a reasonable amount of time (whatever that means) when so many executives and legislative branches of multiple States are - nearly 2 years later, mind you - still resistant to the simple step of supporting the idea of a pin-prick...

As to the second paragraph, c'mon, man.  You yourself mentioned the phrase "gross overstep of government power."  I then illustrated what I considered to be that (all January 6-associated shenanigans), i.e., relative to a GD pin-prick.  Simple enough comparo for you?  I hope so...

Yes, but by bringing up January 6 you imply that I was OK with that gross overstep of government power.... which I was not. That's what you seemed to be implying, if not, coolio.

I know it's authoritarian as phuck but I don't think you should be able to buy soft drinks and junk food with EBT cards either.

They should just give everybody $1000 a month and let em do what they want with it.  Hookers, diapers, weed, rent, gas, whatever.

I'm glad to hear you are not, but, no, I'm not implying that...

The broad philsophical difference we may have, is I don't like the President ruling by executive order. Haven't liked it since George W made it popular nor under any President since. Want to mandate a vaccine for all employers over 100? Cool: take it through congress. We have to have checks on power so one person doesn't control something as important as public health policy.

As for the pandemic, it's now endemic. We are never getting rid of coronavirus for a wide variety of reasons. It's never going to be completely over unless everyone shuts themselves inside and away from others all the time. All we can do now is get the prick and probably more importantly: keep ourselves healthy and our immune systems rocking.

In general, I agree with you, but a pandemic is such a wide-spread "un-everyday" phenomenon for us that I would make an exception as to this sentiment...

And you can call me whatever names you want after I say this, but I worry about one person having too much power. I doubt Biden has authoritarian aims, but if we get the perfect combination of executive order creep + an authoritarian President, January 6th will look like child's play. I also agree there are times where executive order and fast action is absolutely required. Those should be the exception and not the rule, and more and more executive order is becoming the rule and not the exception.

At some point, character enters the equation.  Despite his shortcomings, I don't worry about Biden abusing power in such a fashion.  The Twice-Impeached Orange Shit-Stain, on the other hand, is effectively the polar opposite of that and I would therefore object to pretty much anything and everything he mandated because he's already proven to the world that he's a complete scum-bag that will absolutely trample personal liberties whenever it serves his own gain, which is to say he'd do it (and did it) very frequently...

what if the "orange shit stain" comes back tho...lol

by advocating giving senile joe biden those powers, u in essence clear the way for the 'orange shit stain' as you call him and whatever loony successors come about over the future decades to utilize such power in ways you wont probably be so kosher with...lol

dont think u or others think things thru much when you champion presidents enacting sweeping mandates via EO...lol

It's a pandemic.  Not birth control.  Not a welfare decision.  Not tax policy.  I can live with the current prez making this one mandate, not others.  I don't think acting on a once per century pandemic would give the green light for a moralistic guy like Biden to run amok with myriad executive orders...
