Looks like a sharper curve then the earlier surges. Maybe, hopefully, the virus just hits a wall at some point with all the vaccinated people. And the lack of a surge in deaths is very encouraging.

The surges have been in the unvaxxed cases and hospitalizations. But, yeh the D-variant looks like it’s going to burn through the pop. rapidly.  Mississippi similar to Louisiana below.

Herd immunity the hard way.  This is what it's going to take because people who have refused the vaccine thus far are not going to get it.

36 Days until the Chick-Fil-A kickoff game where Alabama takes on Miami in Atlanta, Georgia inside the Mercedes-Benz Stadium with 71,000 fans!

I think we'll get there pretty fast in Sept/Oct with schools back (mostly no mask to appease the loud parents) and event's that pack the house.

I’m going to get blackout drunk the first time I hear the term “epsilon variant” on the news.

Bottoms up.

It’s looking like the start of the football season there will be issues in hotspots.  South is probably going to be through the peak and heading down well before 36 days (from listening to Gottlieb, Topol, etc.). I sort of fear for our home matchup vs. OKST. @youyanggu posted new data from Los Angeles County indicating 80-85 vaccine protection against the D-variant (w/very low hospitalizations noted). So, I feel pretty safe and will get a fall booster if/when timely.

I did just scan the Misc. B. I’ve got some on ignore, but saw your post question. I’ll bet we’ll get a picture sometime of the political (individuals) skewing. I’ve seen older data on the states.

right now in the Ozarks:

"Among the few who admitted to getting vaccinated, some described being shamed by friends or family.

One woman, Brittany Hanlon, who wears a mask while battling cancer, said she was heckled for doing so while walking through a Wal-Mart. “Take off your mask!” two women shouted at her as she tried shopping. The women told her, “that the mask was making them uncomfortable,” Hanlon recalled, “which I don’t understand. It’s not like I was doing anything mean or inappropriate, I just had a plain black mask on.”

An employee at the Ha Ha Tonka State Park Visitors Center, in the Lake of the Ozarks area, Hanlon says she wears a mask while interacting with roughly 600-700 people a week there. She is typically greeted with sneers and requests that she remove it.

These moments—evidence of how social pressures can often pull people away from public safety measures—underscore the hurdles the Biden administration now faces as it battles a resurgence of the virus across the country.

The president has attempted to hold up his handling of the pandemic as a top political accomplishment. But those achievements increasingly seem at risk. Despite a full-scale push on the local level here, and widespread evidence that the unvaccinated are making up an overwhelming majority of those hospitalized or dying from Covid, the vaccination rate remains ominously low. Single shot vaccinations for adults in the three counties within the Lake of the Ozarks region—Camden, Miller and Morgan—stood at 46 percent, 35 percent and 42 percent, respectively, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is far from the 70 percent goal for adults that experts say is needed to achieve herd immunity."

“Now why would they be giving it away for free?” asked A. McNay, as he sat at Shorty Pants Lounge, another packed venue less than 15 minutes away from Backwater Jack’s. McNay asked that his full name not be used. Like many people here, he was suspicious of the government—and the media—and didn’t want too much of his personal information revealed. “If you think you can trust your government,” he said, “ask the Native Americans."

Hospital beds are becoming scarce in some facilities amid a rise in serious COVID cases. As of Wednesday, there were 1,129 people hospitalized with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 across the state, just shy of the 1,165 hospitalizations the state saw during last summer’s peak.

The hospital association said this week that about 95 percent of all patients hospitalized are unvaccinated.

Peace be on him on his. +++++ the ghoulish reporter that couldn’t wait to find some rando who died to make an example of him. Lying in wait to highlight a man’s death doesn’t do anything to convince anyone to get the shot. It just makes those who want people to choose to protect themselves look like assholes.

We’re all sitting in the dugout. Thinking we should pitch. How you gonna throw a shutout when all you do is bitch.
