I never thought I would see the day where people flew flags with a politician's name instead of the American flag.  Now, they are flying flags saying they don't like a politician instead of the American flag.  I have to believe COVID has been around longer and has turned brains into mush.

I have never had a politician’s bumper sticker on my car, much less a giant f’in flag, because I don’t worship politicians, much less cults of personality.

Oh, he has an American flag up, too. He flies the Trump flag just below. So yay!

I don't get it. I mean, I get why people put the yard signs up during an election, I guess, though I have never done it. I understand a bumper sticker, though I have never done that either. But it seems so strange to me that you'd fly a flag for (much less against) a politician, especially 9 months after the election. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Why you would fly the flag OF THE LOSER 9 months after the election?  Probably for the same reason that they fly the flag of the LOSER of the civil war 150 years after the war ended.

Haha. Good point.

Oh well. The +++++ Biden flag bothers me a bit, only because my 10-year-old has already asked my why someone would fly a flag like that. The pro-Trump stuff doesn't bother me a bit. Just find it really weird.

It used to be Americans joined service clubs, rec league sports teams, etc. to feel a sense of belonging to something bigger than themselves.

The 2000 book "Bowling Alone" talked about the loss of interaction and engagement with others in the US.

I believe people are substituting these new groups to replace that sense of being part of something bigger than themselves.

It's a good teaching moment on how politics can bring the worst out of people, and what is more important is the flag above it and treat our neighbors with that flag in our heart and not the one below it.

That's more or less what I told her. That we have more in common than not, and that in the end most of us all want the same things. Sort of my boiler plate speech for my more conservative friends and family, too.

One of my local hospitals is going to start offering COVID patients the vaccine if/when they are discharged. That is a really good idea, considering that according to all the studies recovered COVID patients seem to get the full benefit of the vaccine after one dose; so even if they don’t follow up they will have a lot of protection.

According to a guy working at a hospital on reddit (so take it for what it's worth), he says most who were not vaccinated who got sick wish they would have been vaccinated, so at least there may be some success in that regard.
