I agree that the variations in testing over time and across the country have resulted in varying degrees of undercounts. Like your boy says, if we didn’t test we wouldn’t have any cases.

Except we have measures to adjust for that. The positive percentage -- which accounts for the increase in testing -- is increasing lately. Hospitalizations are also rising.

What about the case fatality rate. It has come down considerably from the early days of the pandemic hasn't  it.

And yet the country is averaging nearly 700 deaths per day in the most recent 7-day rolling average, despite a lower percentage of positive results than during the peak. Seasonality won't do the country any favors either

It seems like most people really don't understand that this is all a game to keep available ICU beds so that there isn't an increase in deaths caused by a lack of available resources. I think if people actually look up the % of ICU beds v total hosp beds they'll start to realize what this was all about.

Edit: Who am I kidding, it's mostly people who want to believe that everything is a conspiracy. God forbid we take collective responsibility to ensure OUR elderly don't die needlessly.

The more infections that occur, the greater chance you have to be infected. At this rate, we may see herd immunity before we see an effective vaccine.

Except with several strains of Covid already confirmed, and re-infection confirmed (including being worse than prior infection), herd immunity does not look possible.

Almost like saying "hey, enough people get smallpox, we get herd immunity!"

It took an actual smallpox vaccine to eradicate that blight that ravaged civilizations for millennia.
