what do mod's do?

that's the best thing about this place...

The vast majority of the time, nothing. Moving threads to the right board, merging threads about the same thing, etc... However some days it's a pretty shit gig.  Look at this thread where all happy did was give the suggestion a poster take some time off, while I gave the poster a warning point.

A lot of posters here are ungrateful little shits, happy has put in more hours than he ever needed to in order to keep the MWCboard alive.  Some of these tools have no clue.

The MWCboard would not be what it is today without happy dedicating years and years of his time and energy.  A lot of posters sound like crying bitches because happy owns them on topics from time to time and makes them think inwardly.

Smart posters like @bornonthebluewho have a problem with happy have no clue what the dude has done for the board.  Not a single clue.  Happy has done more for this board than any three other posters combined.   He IS mwcboard to the extent any poster can be.

Of course you can beat him or myself up in any topics if you feel that it should happen, but happy is a GREAT mode.

Who's ass am I kissing, again, bud, and what would be the point?  I have no reason here to kiss anybodies ass, including telling the new owner he is being a +++++tard multiple times.

I am telling you, as a matter of fact, no other single poster has shaped MWCboard culture we all love as much as happy.  You don't like him because as a poster he kicks your ass up and down, Convert.  It has NOTHING to do with his abilities as a mod.

It seems a lot of you shit heads (I say with all the love in me little heart) think a mod can't be one of you.

No one is saying he hasn’t done any good, of course he has. A lot of that has nothing to do with moderating content. But he’s got emotional and mental issues at times, and he deserves every bit of shit for it when it occurs. And his monster ego and Ultra PC God complex prevents him from seeing that he does cross the line, and it’s shameful that you refuse to acknowledge it either. The picture you’re trying to paint is pure comedy gold, dude. And sadly it’s fools gold.

Being totally honest with your last few posts, I haven’t seen a person kiss someones ass like that on this board in the last 15 years that I can remember.

It’s not a problem most of the time, but when it does happen it’s totally unacceptable. The fact that you can’t see or refuse to acknowledge that there are times when he can be an absolute intolerant emotional mess, and hypocrite, then you just lost some respect from me.

I wasn’t even going to say anything about it, but clearly other guys also have an issue with it, so I mentioned it. The next time it happens, I’m not going to complain about it, I’m just going to quietly move on for good. Not that I expect anyone to give a rats butt if I do, because they absolutely shouldn’t. I’m just a very, very small part of the board.

I realize that the history of this place goes way back further than when I became a regular here. All the old timers here made this the best place on the Internet , and I realize happy played a major role in that, so I am very apreciative.

he does have an ego , and expects others to expand their view on what he says , but never returns the same courtesy. It comes off as very condescending, and well prickish. He invents arguments you never made and then attacks you for it and then claims he won the battle, or painted you into a corner, lol. It’s underhanded , and cheap. You are left saying, hey I never argued that, asshole! , but because he has clout  around here  he unfairly uses it as leverage in an argument. @#1stunner, used to call this the Wenatchee two step and it was hillarious. He has run off good people , and contributors here with these tactics.

listen , I’ll be the first to admit that happy has made some solid points , and made me think differently. He needs to return the courtesy. Because of the underhanded way he debates topics I can’t engage with him in good faith , so I won’t . I’ve put him on ignore. It’s best we don’t talk for a good long time.

The fact that this thread has turned into a referendum on @happycamper feels apt. Signifying the  coming end of the pandemic I think, since bagging kn the dude and complaining of him being a meanie weenie is a central focus in the pandemic thread. Maybe? Hopefully.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

Other than spurning my sexual advances multiple times, @happycamperis a good dude. Also: COVID-19 sucks and I'm done with it.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

Whatever happened to free speech. There should be no mods. If you don’t like what someone says you can self censor using the ignore function.

We've had posters PM pictures of others home addresses and daughters, attempt to get other posters fired by contacting their employer,  and send them porn by pm to try to get them fired.

An ignore function doesn't cover that, let alone dealing with bots and spammers.

This weird turn in the thread has really reinforced how the gen 3 posters are... kinda wussy. They never dealt with the mwc vs wac flame wars.  They never dealt with obsessive maniacs threatening their livelihood.  They get butthurt easily while being unable to give up the last word.

It's probably a sign that the board is a more hospitable place,  but it still makes me laugh at guys 30 years older than me being so thin skinned and entitled.

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

I can think of a great way to choose mods. Say the top 10 posters all time who have Made  at least one post in the last 6 months can nominate a candidate . Then let the top 50%of posters based on number of historical posts get to vote on said candidates. You have to have some skin on the game to nominate or vote . Repeat this process every two years.

Born, I think if you ask around,  you'll find people who have found me receptive to their arguments.

It happens with you too.  It's just a lot more memorable to have a 5 page flame war than a 3 post exchange that ends in a like.

Plus you are a bit like me in that you often have to have the last word, but you have a thinner skin than I do.  The outcome of that is predictable :/

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

Or...let the owner choose who he wants.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

You know being a mod is not some sort of honor or fun, right?  I resigned once, turned Jeff down the first time he asked me to mod, and the only reason I am a mod now is because we had a wave of sock puppets and I was asked to clean it up, the only reason I am still a mod is because the owner is not engaged and mug retired, leaving ONLY happy to actively moderate.  It's not fun, it's not an honor, it's dealing with cry baby BS and deranged DM's, doing busy work more or less.

Everybody who has ever actively moderated this board has resigned at least once for a reason.  It sucks.

I've been co-owner/admin/mod on a couple boards.  It can be a pain in the ass, because too many people are a pain in the ass and lack self awareness.

Sounds like a quasi-worker co-op, maybe we could call it a posters co-op? Hell yea comrade, love the idea!
