Is the Reno area in a major spike?

Yes.

https://www.rgj.com/story/news/2020/11/30/week-covid-19-deaths-grow-exponentially-washoe-county/6452731002/

The wave of deaths that follows a surge in COVID-19 infections continues to push through Washoe County.

For the second week in a row, the number of deaths has doubled— an exponential increase in the number of coronavirus fatalities that prompted the county coroner to warn the region's funeral homes are about to run out capacity for safely storing bodies.

Between Nov. 20-27, 39 people died. That's more than twice the 15 people who died the week prior, which was nearly twice the eight people who died the week before that.

The average number of cases per day continues to rise at an alarming level, with 47 percent more new cases reported the week ending Nov. 27 than the week prior. The number of active cases also crested to 9,000— a new pandemic record for Washoe County.

Kudos to you for your dedication to your profession of educating the young. There is a marked difference between private and public schools in Boise. Several neighbors have their kids in private schools and they are attending school every day for a normal school day.

The public schools are operating similar to yours. I’m not sure how much difference it has made in regard to spreading Covid. I can’t imagine the private schools going full time if Covid was a huge issue.

I'm teaching high school in Arizona. I have over 32 students packed into every class. Today I had 34 students absence. They either have covid-19 or are quarantined. It's ridiculous.

With the exception of his major French restaurant blunder I think Newsome has done a good job through all this.

The Brits are proceeding with the Pfizer vaccine, yet we hear zilch on how things are progressing with the US FDA despite reaching a peak in deaths yesterday.

American regulators have argued in recent days that they were lagging behind because they are virtually alone in painstakingly reanalyzing thousands of pages of raw data from vaccine trials before approval. Rather than accepting the findings of vaccine makers, American regulators validate the results themselves.

British and European regulators lean more heavily on the companies’ own analyses, studying reports from vaccine makers and, unless there are anomalies, grounding their decisions on those documents. And while American regulators are waiting for a Dec. 10 meeting of outside experts to make a decision, Britain’s committee of specialists met as needed for a total of 40 hours before the decision on Wednesday.

But whether Britain had moved more nimbly than the United States, or hurried through the data, remained an open question on Wednesday. The British government, battered by its handling of the pandemic, exulted in the authorization.

This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

BTW...because Pfizer is the super cold one, the UK will only have 50 hospitals to distribute vaccines at 1st.

I think that politicians should be the first to be vaxxed. If there are no side effects, then it's safe.

If they die, then we're safe.

Why do you often say stupid shit without looking things up?

There's plenty of news out there about the FDA process, what is it that you expect to hear?

A little birdy stated some folks will be getting vaccines as early as next week.  Vulnerable and healthcare only.

All the delivery services have been ramping up, not just for Christmas, but the vaccines - that both are simultaneous is going to be a huge challenge.  Our company CEO talked about it at length in a town hall we had yesterday.

With the death count peaking you shouldn’t have to look up what’s happening on the vaccine front. It should be front page news in every major newspaper and media outlet.

The news is that they are evaluating all the data. Is there more specific info you're looking for?

You don't really give a shit what's happening, you just want them to rubber stamp approval.

Isn't it?  I have CNBC on mute, and just saw a banner with the subject of them rolling out vaccines.  The Seattle new has the governor discussing the roll out of vaccines for the state of WA.  Local news has discussed the state and DOH's stressing patience as the rollout is going to be phased by the most vulnerable, with estimated rollouts of January to larger populations.  It's out there nationally, and in my state, and you are right next door, so I am sure there should be something in the Boise papers and news.

ETA: By larger populations, I am guessing it isn't to everyone, but more vulnerable in larger numbers.  Just guessing that though.

Got the information in my recent post from the Post.  I think they still qualify as 'major'.

I don't really understand why vaccines are going to healthcare workers first. There are 14 million people over 80 years old and about 18 million between 70-80.  That's 30+ million of the most vulnerable, and we're going to give the first ten million doses to 35-year-old zero-risk nurses?
