New justifications coming in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

As someone who still maintains the positions i held from the beginning re: shutdowns, I may find this more offensive than the people who think we didn't shut down enough. Part of balancing risks is understanding risks, and the federal government should play an essential role in publicizing what those risks are. Hiding that shit to keep job numbers up is outrageous.

Planning is an exercise of power, and in a modern state much real power is suffused with boredom. The agents of planning are usually boring; the planning process is boring; the implementation of plans is always boring. In a democracy boredom works for bureaucracies and corporations as smell works for skunk. It keeps danger away. Power does not have to be exercised behind the scenes. It can be open. The audience is asleep. The modern world is forged amidst our inattention.

It is. We may fundamentally disagree on what would have made an effective policy in combating this, but this is always where you and me will agree. While hardly unprecedented, it is unconscionable.

Oh wow, you found one kid who died of complications. What about the other 99.99999999999999999999998999999999% of young people that didn't die. You clown

how many people need to die or get sick for you to give two f*cks, most of us are already there because we've been affected?

A hell of a lot more than COVID has allegedly taken. Do you realize ~3 million people die each year in the US? Did you give two shits collectively about any of them before dumb asses started death tracking a random virus? 200k really really old, really really sick people is fairly insignificant. Bottom line. Certainly not world ending like you keep making it out to be. Grow up. People NEED to go back to their previous lives or we're all +++++ed.

you're a sad, soulless excuse for a human being. We're you this callous when 9-11 happened? How about Sandy Hook? We're there not enough deaths for you to care then?

Does it need to be a Holocaust type death and suffering count for it to make your radar, or isn't that enough?

He gives zero +++++s unless it is him or his family dying. We are all going to die at some point anyway, right? Why should Bob be inconvenienced.

What is it with PAC12 fans, clutching their pearls, bombarding the board with COVID scare articles, and pretending that they are on some sort of moral high ground for not playing this fall (only because the State of California rules caused the PAC12 to cancel their season).

Can we all agree---at the VERY LEAST---to not post propaganda?

The kid who died was NOT playing football this fall.  He was NOT on campus, and arguably contracted COVID because he was back at home in a less safe environment, and not in a "football bubble" regularly being tested by his football program.  It's a shame he (and anyone) died.  But to pretend that he would have been safer is a lie---he wasn't even around football.

Jamain Stephens, a football player at California University of Pennsylvania and the son of a former Steelers first round-draft pick, has died at the age of 20 of COVID-19 complications.

Stephens had played the last three seasons at California University, which canceled this football season because of the pandemic.

Such is the transactional nature of being a member of the party of Trump these days.

I know you graduated from BYU, where their "medical school" was once convinced that you could just "pray away the gay" to cure homosexuality or introduce electric current to a person's temples to make them straight, but this is real life and science.

Do you not want to know that this virus can and has affected young people? Does it really matter if he was playing football or not? The point was that young people are catching this virus, and a few have serious consequences. Its a fact.  Is it propaganda to report that? Would you rather not know this information?  Someone famous once bumbled the phrase "If we don't test for the virus then we don't have that many cases and we don't have a problem"

Do you side with the University of Alabama who asked administrators not to divulge COVID cases and sweep them under the rug?

Would do you and your Cougarboard wannabees constantly minimize this virus?  Is it not a serious threat to you and your family? I am baffled by the uncaring nature of some on this board. I just don't understand this Sturgis type selfish attitude, that says "f*ck everyone else, I'm going to do what I want"

I would love for the schools playing right now to find away to play safely. That would provide a way for all of us to do it in the future. We all want that.  But part of that is not burying information about death and sickness because it makes us uncomfortable or goes against our preconceived notions about what were told to believe.

Man's got a good point here. I'm not sure what this story proves other than sometimes people die of stuff that they are extraordinarily statistically unlikely of dying from... even when they take precautions to avoid it.

You keep posting SCARE propaganda (along with the other 3 PAC12 fans doing it).   Apparently trying to claim moral high ground for the PAC12 not playing this fall.

You just posted a lie suggesting that a football player contracted COVID (while he is a football player, his season was cancelled, and he was at home.....he might have been safer if the season WAS NOT CANCELLED (more testing).

Regarding the season, tuck your BYU Boner back in your shorts.... Maybe you can go to BYU and ask them to shock you until you finally agree to stop whining and scolding everyone who doesn't agree with your fear articles?

Your scolding BYU for playing a season is silly---most of the United States is playing a season under reasonable precautions.  Including NAVY, ARMY, NOTRE DAME, etc (not sure why you are preoccupied with BYU).   BYU football players are being tested 3 times per week.   What about the Utah football players at home with their parents getting ZERO tests, and not likely confining themselves to their parent's house?

The only reason Utah is not playing a season right now is not because Utah respects the virus more than BYU....but because the State of California has very draconian and strict rules in place.  The PAC!2 couldn't play with these strict rules in place.  Hell, the State of Utah is still playing High School Football this season.

Its not only really really old or really really sick people that are dying. There has been studies that show the average life of the victims have been shortened by 10 years. SO if you include the number of really old and sick people it will take quite a few people that had longer than 10 years to live to balance that out. People with conditions like diabetes or asthma or overweight people are at a high risk and I wouldn't say they are at deaths door. Does the virus target mainly old and people with other health issues? Yes, but it is far from only killing really really old and really really sick. YOu are exaggerating that to try and make your point but its not reality.

How many lives could we save if we just outlawed swimming, driving in cars, boating, riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, outlawed operating heavy equipment, jet skis, tobacco, outlawed any potentially addictive drug, set strict limits on how much food you can buy so you don't get fat, outlawed dangerous forms of work, going outside in a storm? People die every year engaging in activities concerning these things! Damn, why do you not care about them? These are 100% preventable! The seasonal flu kills way more children than COVID. Schools should be closed for ever according to your perverted logic. These are human beings we're talking about!

You have the moral sense of a 12 year old girl.

While you have the moral sense of a sociopath.
