Corona Virus - How bad is it going to be?

Recommended Posts

Travel bans meant to stop the coronavirus from getting to the US from China and Europe came too late, according to a new analysis of cases from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The US restricted travel from China on February 2 and from Europe on March 13, but by March 8, Covid-19 was already circulating among the community in New York City and, by March 15, community transmission of the virus was already widespread, the analysis found.
What was circulating most closely matched the strain of the virus circulating in Europe, not China, which President Donald Trump has repeatedly blamed for not preventing its spread to the US.

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Denna Robertson, one of the rally organizers, said she’s “absolutely” comfortable sending children back to school without masks. She said wearing masks is not a public health issue because she believes COVID-19 was manufactured in a lab.

“Coronavirus is man-made. It’s a weaponized virus,” Robertson said.

She doesn't even want to defend herself against what she believes is a weapon? Wow.

FEMA has sent 8 military medical teams to California. Each team consists of 20 people including doctors, critical care nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians assistants and respiratory therapists.

The teams are in areas where hospitals are converting beds to additional critical care beds or are experiencing staffing shortages as some medical staff have contracted or are in quarantine due to exposure.

So far I have identified the locations of 4 of the DOD teams. 3 are in the San Joaquin Valley: Fresno, Visalia, and Lodi. Another team deployed to Rancho Mirage.

I might have missed this so apologies if it was posted before.

Researchers have been analyzing and tracking the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, since it first appeared in China in January. Researchers at The Scripps Research Institute have found that the strains spreading so quickly in Europe and the U.S. have a mutated S “spike” protein that makes it about 10 times more infectious than the strain that originally was identified in Asia. The research was published online on bioRxiv and has yet to be peer-reviewed.

The mutation does not appear to make the virus any more deadly than it already is, but it does appear to make it significantly more contagious. The original strain in China is dubbed D614, while the one found in the UK, Italy and North America by May is dubbed G614.
