If a justice died today, the seat should be held open until the election.

Based on the stunt the Republicans pulled when Scalia died, the answer is yes.   Wait until after the election.  (though that should never have happened)

Mitch would push a nominee through during a lame duck period if he felt the need to do so.

It's about power. Plain and simple.

"Don't do something you wouldn't think it was legal for Bernie Sanders to do"

-Something I keep in mind for how I judge stuff like this. IMO the Supreme Court should have 18 year appointments, with a new Justice nominated every 2 years, and with the senior justice acting as Chief Justice. But that solution may cause a lot of unforseen problems. who knows.

Remember that every argument you have with someone on MWCboard is actually the continuation of a different argument they had with someone else also on MWCboard.

This all comes across like, do we want to see something worse than the Kavanaugh hearings? Let’s just hope no one dies until after the next election.

Statistically it will happen eventually and the country will have to deal with it then.

You can vote however you want, but if RBG or another member of the SCOTUS dies in the next couple of months, the Republicans will nominate and appoint a new one.  It was power politics when they held it up and it will be power politics when they make it happen.

No question they would do the same thing.  The whole point of this thread is to catch someone being hypocritical about it.  My point is it is about power politics.  It will be amusing to see the Democrats and Republicans all trade one side of the argument for the other side.  The difference would be that the Democrats could do nothing about the outcome.
