Mountain West Conference men's basketball championship history

Recommended Posts

Man, it's been a long time since the Rebels have done anything in the MWC tournament.  I think their last appearance in the final was 2012.  Hope TJO can figure it out.  Anyway, looks like a cake walk for the Aztecs this year.  They are certainly proving me wrong.  No let up in this group.  Great defensive team like always, but their shooting is far superior to previous Aztec teams.  I think CSU, USU, UNR, or UNLV have a slim shot to beat the Aztecs, but not if they continue shooting the way they are.  Gonna take a real bad shooting performance to beat them.  Just don't see that happening.

Good enough to get there. Unlike 75% of the conference.

Not as bad as Weber State though. In spite of dominating the regular season and hosting the Conference Tourney, they seem to find a way to lose on their home floor.

Are you sure about that? Your winning percentage in WCC play (.750) is significantly higher than it was playing MWC teams (.600) this year.

For how many of those MWC games was BYU's best player available?

And none since they left.  The new competition is tougher.

Agreed.  BYU has improved a lot once Yoeli Childs returned.

SDSU hasn't been challenged in the MWC this year.  Look at these numbers.  NCAA tournament will be a big increase in difficulty.

FIFY. Ironically, the closest game we've had to date was against San Jose.

The Aztecs are a juggernaut.

Will be interesting if SDSU and Gonzaga are placed in the same bracket in the NCAA tournament.

MWC looking like a one bid league this year.  But I think UNLV is trending up which is good for the Conference.

For the WCC, biggest priority is improving USD.  For some reason USD has been regressing.

That article said the first championship since 2011...false.

The Aztecs won regular season title:

2006

2011

2014

2015

2016

2020

The author of this article defines the conference champion as the tournament winner. No team’s regular season titles are mentioned.

It seemed an inexplicable drought after they won the tournament four times in the first twelve years of the league.
